Karl Malden, one of Hollywood's strongest and most versatile supporting actors, who won an Oscar playing his Broadway-originated role as Mitch in "A Streetcar Named Desire," died today. He was 97.
I'll have a career recap up shortly in the memorial thread.
He was the earliest male competitive acting live still alive (that distinction now moves to Ernest Borgnine; no other winners from before 1961 remain with us).
Three earlier female winners (5 Oscars among them) still survive - Rainer, Fontaine and De Havilland. Rainer turns 100 next January.

Interesting thing about the women is the fact that Rainer became the 1st to win two best actress oscars (Bette Davis would also win her second the year immediately following Rainer's 2nd win) and that Fontaine & De Havilland (aos a double best actress winner) are sisters. By the way, happy birthday to Olivia, who is 93 years young today!

He was a Hollywood legend for his acting on the big screen and on television. Though, not a looker-his acting skills were remarkable. I loved him in " Streetcar" RIP Karl . You lived on long life.

It's wrong of me but the first things that popped into my mind was how Fametracker would predict who would win the Oscar based on five Karl Malden clones, and a clip of Family Guy, I saw where Karl Malden sucks up a lot of cocaine with his whole face being replaced by his nose.
It's too bad that he and Owen Wilson were never in a movie together because of their memorable sexy noses.

I have a feeling De Havilland and Fontaine are going to be like Thomas Jefferson and John Adams in trying to will themselves to live longer than the other person.
I just want to say RIP Karl Malden it's so sad because now all 4 main characters of one of my Favorite movies A Stretcar Named Desire is dead. it's so sad to see someone go. He now is not the oldest supporting actor living anymore.
