Every year Entertainment Weekly picks their Entertainers of the Year. With the year more than half done, are their any current favorites to top the list?
Right now I think Angelina Jolie will take top honors. Between left over love from "A Mighty Heart," the box office successes of "Kung Fu Panda" and "Wanted," plus the critical love coming her way for the "Changelings," she is definitely the current favorite. On top of that, she has all the hoopla surrounding Brad and the twins. This has been her year so far and will continue to be through the Oscar season.
Other potential actor picks are Heath Ledger, Robert Downey Jr and Meryl Streep.
I would not be suprised if they did "Superheroes" with the sucess of Iron Man, Hulk, and most likly The Dark Knight they will be 3 of the biggest hits of the year.
Robert Downey Jr. will definitely be on their list.
I think that Pixar Animation Studios will also be on the list.
For Your Emmy Consideration: Kyra Sedgwick - Best Actress in a Drama Series "Damages" - Best Drama Series Zeljko Ivanek - Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Glynn Turman - Guest Actor in a Drama Series

I suspect that gives someone like Jolie an edge, although I like the idea of the generic comic book hero.
But it is absurdly early to guess to be honest.
I actually caught a quick newsfeed on E! in which the hosts said quite certainly that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are the closest to Hollywood royalty we have. Expect the couple to perhaps make the cover together. After all, there have been multiple title-winners before.

I'm pretty positive that they will pick Robert Downey Jr. I mean, c'mon, THIS IS HIS YEAR! Angelina Jolie could come in a close second though... Between her box-office hits and her tabloid headlines, she is "hollywood royalty."

I'd love to see Downey Jr. get the cover page. That cat has got a heck of a comeback story, and anyone who can play a real person, a superhero, and a black character actor in the same year deserves some spotlight.

Bart Simpson (1990) Jodie Foster (1991) the cast of Saturday Night Live (1992) Steven Spielberg (1993) Tom Hanks (1994) the cast of Friends (1995) Rosie O'Donnell (1996) Ellen DeGeneres (1997) Leonardo DiCaprio (1998) Ricky Martin (1999) Russell Crowe (2000) Nicole Kidman (2001) Denzel Washington (2002) the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) Jon Stewart (2004) the cast of Lost (2005) the cast of Grey's Anatomy (2006) and J. K. Rowling (2007)
It is absurdly early, as seanflynn says. But when has that stopped us before?
This could be the most exciting election campaign of the modern (media) era. Note that Jon Stewart-2000-rode the last election year to EOTY. Steve Colbert could do it this year, or the cast of SNL again (cf. 1992, another election year). Other possiblities in this vein: Oprah Winfrey (who has never been EOTY), the candidates themselves, the blogosphere, etc.
I don't think she'll be Entertainer of the Year, but Amy Poehler will pop up in the issue somewhere.
Between Baby Mama, Horton Hears a Who, SNL, The Mighty B, Emmy nomination and The Office Spin-Off / (or Unofficial Greg Daniels Project), she'd have to be a major contender.
