This should be very interesting to say the least. I think Brolin is a great choice and this is sure to be a much-talked about and polarizing movie. It is supposed to encompass his entire life. I think she is probably too old but can you imagine what a powerhouse performance Joan Allen would give as Laura Bush in this film. I still think Allen as Pat Nixon is one of the greatest performances of the 90's and the most unbelievable Oscar loss of the 90's as well. Up there with Denzel losing to Pacino.
Anyway, lets start some casting ideas to throw out there.
Angela Basset as Condoleeza Rice
Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Karl Rove
Brian Cox as Billy Graham

We have a film casting and development thread, which is where this belongs.

If every film announcement got its own thread, we'd be overwhelmed.

When/if the film is made and released, then it should have its own thread. Until then, no.

And why should you get to do this when others go to the appropriate thread? What makes you so special?

No one is suggesting you not talk about it. Only that you should do it in the appropriate thread.

So...
A three time Academy-Award winning writer/director is making a movie about our sitting president.

It is said to begin shooting in April.

The lead has been cast.

Bush could possibly still be in office when this is released.

It is sure to be extremely controversial and polarizing. Discussing the potential for casting choices for the film as well as Stone's potential treatment of Bush considering his treatment of Nixon and Stone's much-publicized politics could be endless.

So many avenues to go down in discussing this news...

But seanflynn wants it ghettoized to some film development thread that absolutely NO ONE has posted any original thoughts in. It is all cut-and-paste articles.

But this is why less and less and less people post on goldderby. Because people like seanflynn are rude to people who want to start threads and try to get all hall-monitor and tell you where to discuss things. I bet he was one of those kids who reminded the teacher to give the class homework.

So if I am in the wrong and a moderator thinks this thread is inappropriate, please let me know and I will try to avoid making such a mistake in the future.

And if anyone WOULD actually like to discuss this news and this film(which I think is fascinating and big news), here is a link to another forum that you will not be reprimanded for posting in...
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2748306

Thanks.

Um, it makes things much easier when all the films that are in development are posted in one thread.

Don't get your thongs in a bunch.

Very decent cast: Brolin, Elizabeth Banks, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn

This project has so much potential... that I feel like it'll be a letdown dunno

Is there a point to his film that is not covered in Lions for Lambs, Rendition, In the Valley of Elah.....besides, Brolin doesn't even look like Bush.

How boring....a very liberal director makes another boring anti-government film that nobody will go see. And I understand a former adult film star will be playing the 1st lady Laura Bush. LOL...thats almost an insult!

I think the movie will suck major ass mostly because "Redacted" and other anarchists, liberal movie makers will make it so blatantly biased and flawed. I will see it though.

PLEASE DON'T WORRY YOUR PRETTY LITTLE HEAD--no doubt encouraged by her Oscar-winning "debut," Diablo Cody is probably writing another oxymoronically "hip" yet Catholic-Church-pleasing "comedy" just for viewers of your discerning taste.

Pope says: I just love that Diablo!

DAILY DIABLO DICTUM:

"Sure, none of us has dared to pop six quaaludes, climb to a dangerous height, and declare 'I am a golden god!'"

TomK says: Speak for yourself, girlfriend!*

BONUS TREAT:

[*OK, so it wasn't six quaaludes but yes, it put me on top of the highest peak like a "golden god." Must have been some sort of pantheon, 'cause I ran into some other gods there, too.]
