According to the new academy rules, only two songs from a film may be nominated. "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" is campaigning four. Which ones do you think have have the best shot to be nominated? And which has the best shot to WIN?
"Can I Have This Dance?" -- written by Adam Anders and Nikki Hassman, sung by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens
"I Want It All" -- written by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil, sung by Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel
"A Night to Remember" -- written by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil, sung by film cast
"Scream" -- written by Jamie Houston, sung by Zac Efron
I am inclined to say that none of these songs will be nominated. The competition isn't THAT weak in this category that they are going to have to nominated one of these.
I say NONE of them get nominated.

I agree with Troy. I think none of these are gonna be nominated. Although, Disney scored 3 of the 5 slots last year. So we can never really tell. But for the sake of speculation...
As a song, "I Want It All" is so-so. Enjoyable, but mediocre. It would definitely be a hoot to see Tisdale & Grabeel perform this live though. So this would be my first choice among the 4.
"Scream" is a close second for me. One of the strongest songs from the film. But that's not really saying much.
Not too keen on "A Night To Remember". I always felt that "Now Or Never" was the better ensemble number, and possibly one of the best ensemble songs in the HSM franchise.
"Can I Have This Dance" is nothing but trite, cheesy, generic pop hell. I hope they don't go for this song. It's horrible.
From what I've heard of the High School Musical 3 music, it doesn't compare to that of the first two installments. Notice how with HSM and HSM2, a lot of the songs were downloaded a # of times and allowed for them to place high on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving these Disney stars multiple Top 5, Top 10, and Top 40 hits. This time around, that didn't happen. Why? B/C the music isn't as good. The fact that the music of this new film isn't even in demand with Disney's key demographic should let you know that Oscar won't be going gaga over it either.
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak Adele for "Hometown Glory" Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody" The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' " Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"
My favorite song is "I Want It All", but, since I have seen the movie, I have the feeling that "Can I Have This Dance?" will be nominated....
For Your Oscar Consideration: Charlotte Gainsbourg, "Antichrist" - Best Actress in a Leading Role Sharlto Copley, "District 9" - Best Actor in a Leading Role Christoph Waltz, "Inglourious Basterds" - Best Actor in a Supporting Role
"Inglourious Basterds" - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction "District 9" - Best Editing, Best Visual Effects "God Bless Us Everyone", A Christmas Carol - Best Original Song

I am crossing my fingers in hopes that not a single one out of the four gets a spot in the top five (or three). But as I've said before, "I Want It All" would be the easiest choice were I an Oscar voter: it references show-biz, paparazzi, and even makes a mention of Oscar (when Grabeel says, "And the Oscar goes to..."). It is most likely going to be the nominated one, if any.
"Can I Have This Dance" is extremely cheesy and generic, as Richter said. But those darn love ballets have scored with Oscar before. "Scream" is a song that takes itself way too seriously, with lyrics pushing for metaphor and ending up with mediocrity. "A Night to Remember" would be funny in the sense that it could be referring to Oscar night rather than prom night; as a nominee, not so much.
Right now, I'm just hoping that HSM3 and Miley Cyrus stay out of this category. That's my main concern.

You can't compare this to "Enchanted." "Enchanted" was basically an animated Disney film and those were animated film songs. Enchanted got outstanding reviews and was seen as in consideration for other nominations as well. And, probably most importantly, the Enchanted songs were written by a 4-time Oscar winner.
Comparing Enchanted to High School Musical 3 is completely wrong. The movies and their songs have nothing in common beyond the name Disney. There certainly won't be a song from HSM3 nominated.
Hopefully none. And you can't really compare High School Musical 3 to Enchanted, well mainly because Enchanted was really for everyone as HSM3 is really for 7-13 year olds, and I don't think that many voters are within that age group... Plus, Amy Adams had a huge shot at getting a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars last year. I know I was predicting her as well as many others! I don't think the Academy is going to recognize Zac Efron or Ashley Tisdale any time soon...
Plus, Enchanted's songs were actually good, especially "That's How You Know" and "So Close," plus they were by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. High School Musical 3's songs are teeny-bopper songs.
The only "Disney star" I could see getting a nomination this year would be Miley Cyrus with that song from Bolt. It is actually not that bad and I could actually see the Oscars recognizing this song. The lyrics are very good, and seem to be true to the movie, and having John Travolta sing the song as well doesn't hurt either. The Globes will for sure nominate Miley and it makes me wonder if the Oscars will do the same...

No, the song isn't half bad, but just the thought of Miley Cyrus becoming an Oscar nominee is... is.....

Yeah, I know. I hear ya. I am not a Miley fan at all, but two major factors play into her getting a nomination and the voters actually voting for her.
1) She was asked to be a presenter last year, so even just an honor like that for someone like her, it obviously shows that the Academy has some respect for her.
and 2) Many voters most likely have kids or grandkids who are pretty much obsessed with Miley Cyrus, so she is definetly a well-known name among many voters, thus possibly giving Miley a little push for a nomination. And they might possibly think "Oh it's just the Best Original Song category. It'll give her something to brag and be extremely happy about!" (Oh you get my point! )
