Or is it just me?
Part of it is the cost of movies and the quick turnaround for DVD that's not giving me much incentive these days to make the trip to the theater, spend between $6 and $12 (more when you factor in the cost of public transportation), and sometimes risk the rude behavior of other moviegoers. I still haven't seen "Ponyo," "Inglorious Basterds," or "500 Days of Summer," among others, because I think, I could go to that movie now, or I could wait a few months, spend 80% less, and get special features and a director's commentary out of the deal.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
I am, a bit. I havent seen (500) Days either, although I wanted to. And since I joined Zip.ca, the Canadian version of Netflix, I've been able to find rare, older films I havent seen in a long time. I havent seen Extract and now there's Bright Star, Michael Moore's newest, etc; but I'll probably get to the theatre to see those. Sometimes it seems a bit of a chore keeping up, but most of the time, especially if I am a fan of the actors/director/theme of the film, I dont mind at all. I guess it also helps, that I dont have to pay the same prices as most, which is substantially more per person than it is in the US; although, that isnt much of a factor for me. Spare time on the other hand, is.

I've only seen 10 movies from this year. I should really see more, seeing as I get to watch for free at our local cinema.
"Notorious was nice, but it’s not in the color purple range" "Angels and Demons may get nominated for cinematography the imagery was profound" "District Nine will definitely win for best foreign film it made money and everyone loved it" ~ 8movies

If I had that arrangement, I'd roll out a sleeping bag in the lobby and live there.

It pretty much only plays big-budget crap... occasionally there's a movie I'd like to see there but the management is very anti-intellectual (I used to work there)... his idea of an "art house" film is The Young Victoria or The Queen of Sheba's Pearls. Of course, in a town like the one in which I live, they aren't going to make any money playing good films.

I watch anything that has received relatively good reviews or word-of-mouth, but I'm not going to take advantage of the freebies just to watch something like Unaccompanied Minors.
