G'Day,
I took so long getting these done that the personal awards thread is now gone (seeing that we are now half way through 2008), ha. Rather than giving a lengthy post I'll just provide a link to my blog where you can see pictures of the noms and winners for Noble's 2nd Annual Film Awards:
http://nobleawards.blogspot.com/

Feel free to comment here on the winners or use this thread to post your own awards for last year (although no-one else is probably this behind).

Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series

Impressive site.

Amy Adams for Lead Actress win?
Did you really think Amy was that worthy of a nomination in CWW?

Is Jenna Fischer really in a league of her own in television supporting actresses?

I concur with the Ugly Betty/America Ferrera comments.

Emmys FYC:
Lead Actress Comedy
Please view the actual tape submissions and reward for quality...

...Not because of buzz
...Not because the nominee has 3 other Emmy noms
...Not 'cause the nominee is a writer so this would be great after the writer's strike
...Not because the nominee starred in a movie this spring.

Please view the actual tape and reward for QUALITY.

G'Day,
Thanks cougar-luva for your kind words.
Yeah I think Adams deserved to win. It was a neck and neck race with Julie Christie who was also great, but in the end I felt that Adams played the type of role that conventionally gets overlooked by awards groups. Just because she is in a kids film dosn't mean the performance is without as much merit as someone who is in a serious adult film. Her performance conveys drama, comedy (which I feel is harder to act than drama) and sings and dances. It is a performance with depth and range and I believe it to be the best of the year. Although I'm happy for people to disagree.

Her nod for Charlie Wilson's War I was a little less certain about, she was my 5th pick with Janney (Juno) and Ronana (Atonement) right behind her. But as you can see I thought CWW was a great film. She surprised me by having more to do than Roberts, delivered the fast paced Sorkin dialog well and her scene at the refugee camp's subtlety really impressed me (as did her first scene with Roberts and the one where Charlie kissed her).

I'm happy to anser your questions regarding my comments on the emmy awards but if you could pm me about them, or post the questions on my actual blog that would be great, In order to prevent this oscar/film thread to turn into one on the emmys/tv. Thanks.

I loved Charlie Wilson's War. I thought the performances and the screenplay were terrific. Kudos to Mike Nichols, Aaron Sorkin, and the cast!
Nice choice Noble.

G'Day,
Mike, screenplay was one of the toughest categories for me as I loved the writing in Ratatouille and Michael Clayton and part of me wanted them to win as well, I was also reluctant to give it to CWW because it was adapted (I tend to admire original scripts more than adapted ones). But I just loved the Sorkin dialog too much and when I think about this film I think about Hoffman's steller performance (which almost won) and it's great script (as well as to a lesser extent nice turns from Hanks and Adams).

Thanks for the praise babypook! Althought It didn't really come close to Blood I feel that CWW was one of the years best and deserved much more recognition than it got last year and I'm glad you agree.

No place for No Country? Shocking.

Anyways, good thing you didnt reward Julia Roberts in CWW. That was the fakest, most unconvincing performance of last year.

Love the Amy Adams love.

FYC EMMY VOTERS!!!

Please consider the following performances:

Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies)
Julia Louis Dreyfus (New Adventures of Old Christine)
Steve Carell (The Office)
Hugh Laurie (House)
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)
Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother)

Wow. I'm very surprised by some of the winners and nominees. For example, Charlie Wilson's screenplay over Michael Clayton's? A Dillon Freasier nomination over Javier Bardem? Romola Garai over Amy Ryan? Really? Very interesting choices, even if some many not be agreeable to everyone.

My Early Early Oscar Predictions:

PICTURE: Revolutionary Road
DIRECTOR: David Fincher, Curious Case of Benjamin Button
ACTOR: Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road or Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
ACTRESS: Meryl Streep, Doubt or Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road
SUPPORTING ACTOR: Heath Ledger, Dark Knight or Robert Downey, Jr., The Soloist
SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Amy Adams, Doubt, or Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Burn After Reading or Milk
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Frost/Nixon, Doubt, or Benjamin Button
ANIMATED FEATURE: Wall.E

G'Day,

Thanks iskolar,
I didn't feel that Roberts was fake in the film but, although I love the film, that there was nothing awards worthy about it.
Despite admiring the performances and direction of No Country I didn't like the film at all.
Yeah I really discovered Amy Adams this/last year with the 2 performances I've cited and Junebug and I have been so impressed such heartfelt funny performances with real depth, she has quickly become one of my favourite actors (not to mention I have a bit of a soft spot for anyone who guest starred on the West Wing).

Dr. McPhearson,
I'm glad you surprised and interested in my awards. I was actually considering Bardem in the lead actor category and he just missed out (narrowly beaten by Hoffman) if I considered him supporting he would have likley just missed out as well as I loved those 5 performances I picked. Actually I havn't seen Gone Baby Gone so its a little unfair on Amy Ryan, the problem with being in Australia is that some films don't get released til months after the states (although most big oscar contenders do). Amyway thanks for your comments.
