They nominated Arkin when they could have had Dano or Carell, they nominated Haley when they could have had Emmerich, they nominated Wahlberg when they could have had Nicholson. There were a whole host of worthy replacements for Murphy and Hounsou - Sheen is the huge snub, IMO, but there's also Pitt, Ninomiya, Beach, Phillips, the list goes on. They had probably no chance, but Sergi Lopez (Pan's Labyrinth), Hugo Weaving (Little Fish), Simon McBurney (Friends with Money) and Ulrich Tukur (The Lives of Others) would have all been worthy replacements, as well.
