Blender Magazine on Kelly Clarkson:
" The Texas native has one of the great voices in pop music, a powerful and versatile instrument that’s steeped in the rhythm and blues and country music she grew up with in the South. If Mariah Carey’s five-octave voice is the equivalent of an expensively bred poodle, then Clarkson’s is a bloodhound: friendly, earthy, but fierce just the same."

Baltimore Examiner (concert review):
"Her sultry voice is absolutely flawless. The tone and range floors you. When she belts out a note, it's precise yet powerful."

"Music is powerful, it's a drug that makes your inhibitions go away and leaves your vulnerabilities exposed" - KC

So it looks to be Owl City, Jason Derulo, and Jay Sean atop the charts again. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys could move up too- "Empire State of Mind" went to #5 in downloads after the World Series performance and it's #7 in airplay too.

I'm guessing Taylor Swift's biggest debut will be somewhere in the #9-#11 range.

How long has Maxwell been #1 on the R&B Chart?

He seems to be in a great position to break MJB's record.

I'm liking the high turnover rate at the #1 spot. It's refreshing after BEP's long ass run.

Lady Gaga Sets Latest Billboard Chart Record
by Gary Trust, N.Y. | November 02, 2009 5:46 EST

Lady Gaga becomes the first artist in the 17-year history of Billboard's Pop Songs chart to notch four No. 1s from a debut album, as "Paparazzi" rises 3-1.

The singer - recently honored as Billboard's Rising Star - previously led Pop Songs with "Just Dance," "Poker Face" and "LoveGame" from her debut release, "The Fame." The set has sold 1.56 million copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan, The album will be re-released in expanded form as "The Fame Monster" Nov. 23.

Since the Pop Songs chart debuted in October 1992, two artists prior to Lady Gaga had plated three No. 1s from their first albums: Ace of Base and Avril Lavigne. (Alanis Morissette also enjoyed a trio of leaders from her first U.S. album, "Jagged Little Pill").

KMVQ (Movin' 99.7)/San Francisco played "Paparazzi" the most times - 131 - of all Pop Songs reporters in the current chart's tracking week (Oct. 26-Nov. 1), according to Nielsen BDS. "Lady Gaga has come on to our station like a tornado," says Movin' Program Director Michael Martin. "When you make hit records, the audience responds, and we would be foolish not to give them what they want."

Check tomorrow's edition of Chart Beat for more details on Lady Gaga's history-making week.

Jason DeRulo will become the fourth artist of 2009 to take their first charting single to No. 1 as his "Whatcha Say" will top the Billboard Hot 100 chart to be released tomorrow (Nov. 5). He replaces fellow newbie Owl City, which sees its "Fireflies" fall to No. 2. Other artists to take their debut single to No. 1 this year were Jay Sean with "Down" (No. 4 this week) and Lady Gaga with "Just Dance." Gaga, meanwhile, holds at No. 6 with "Paparazzi" and has the Hot Shot Debut at No. 9 with "Bad Romance," one of the new tracks from her upcoming album re-release "The Fame Monster." The title opens at No. 3 on Digital Songs with 142,000 downloads.

It is yet another album reissue that leads to the most intriguing Hot 100 happenings however. Taylor Swift, with each of the new tracks on her "Fearless (Platinum Edition)" album, becomes the first artist in the history of the Hot 100 to debut five songs within the top 30 in a single week. "Jump Then Fall" fares the best, opening at No. 10, followed by "Untouchable" (No. 19), "The Other Side of the Door" (No. 22), "Superstar" (No. 27) and "Come In With the Rain" (No. 30). Those tracks join three other Swift singles on the list. "Forever & Always," which appears in a redone version on the "Platinum Edition" album, re-enters at No. 34, joining chart holdovers "You Belong With Me" (No. 14) and "Fifteen" (No. 49).

Swift's eight chart listings give her the record for most charted titles in a single week by a female artist. Among all artists, the Beatles lead with 14 entries (April 11, 1964).

Back in the top 10, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys jump 13-3 as both the Airplay and Digital Gainer with "Empire State of Mind." The duo performed the song prior to game 2 of the World Series on Fox on Thursday, Oct. 29, leading to a download spike of 62%. Jay-Z's prior single "Run This Town," with Rihanna and Kanye West, dips 5-7.

Miley Cyrus slips 4-5 with "Party In The U.S.A." and Britney Spears regains her bullet, but holds at No. 8 with "3."

I want "Empire State Of Mind" to become number 1.
It would the best song all year long to do it.

Shame Jaosn derulo is in there with a disgusting single making the most inappropriate use of Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek".

I completely agree! I'm not from NY, but I love that song! Plus, if it hits #1, it'll give Alicia Keys her fourth Hot 100 chart-topper.

^Yea too bad it won't happen though.

It'll be interesting to see where Russian Roulette debuts next week in the top 5.

Why do you think it won't happen? It's consistently rising up the chart. It stands an excellent shot at the top spot.

If by innapropriate you mean amazing, then yes.

And I too really wish Empire would top the Hot 100

Goodness, you're giving fuel to Beyonce stans and Rihanna haters. I would agree with this statement for the latter part of the decade, but not the whole 10 years. Alicia and Beyonce probably would be more deserving recipients of that title. My vote would be for Beyonce.

I totally agree! And I hope Kelly's "Already Gone" rebounds to hit the top 10 (it's already a top 10 smash on Hot AC and Pop)... i'm so over these
"One week wonder" hits like all the Taylor Swift songs. Argh...

It rose on Itunes because of the performance last week at the World Series. Now it's dropped back down to normal so pretty much no chance itll be #1 unless something spikes the Itune sales again.
