John Legend to-be-titled 3rd set is due in September. However, the first single is set for release some time next month. It's called "Green Light" and it features Andre 3000. Legend has also stated that this album will be more mainstream and pop-sounding than the first two albums, even saying that he's replaced the usual live instruments that he's known for with sampled drums and synthesizers.

I really like that he's thinking of going in a different direction production-wise. I can't wait to hear what he comes up with this time around.

Here's the preliminary tracklist:
"Green Light" feat. Andre 3000
"Satisfaction"
"Everybody Knows"
"No Other Love"
"Cross The Line"
"This Time"
"Good Morning"
"Aim High"
"It's Over" feat. Kanye West

"It's Over" is a possible 2nd single choice, but neither artist has confirmed that yet.

Seriously? Sampled Drums and Synthesizers?? John Legend??? This dude is MADE to make the kind of music he was making with his first two albums. I'll have to hear the new material to see for myself, but it just seems like forced, unnatural direction for him. Maybe he's trying to do better commercially.

i haven't listened to his last album in a long time, but i still love the debut. i don't know what to think of this new direction, but it will be interesting. it could keep him from falling off the map like jill scott.

why is the first single coming out so far ahead of the album? weird.

It just feels like this album is being rushed. I hope he's not selling out just to be more commercial.

Mmm I'll be waiting.

So I was wondering if people really liked his 2nd cd? I loved it. Some people kind of disliked it since it really wasn't R&B.

I read an article about this album a couple months ago and it sounded awesome. I can't wait to hear it.
I've loved his first 2 albums, and he was amazing live.

I loved that his debut had a real gospel feel to it, then he completely changed it for album 2 to have more of a 70s-R&B style, and it was just as brilliant (and robbed of Grammys because it was submitted in Pop).
Can't wait to see what he does next.

I loved Once Again and I still think that it's better than his debut album.

I agree! And John Legend seems to have a great ear for music, so I trust whatever direction he wants to go in for the third album. He has been a very refreshing voice in the world of R&B the last several years especially when compared to his male counterparts.

I much preferred his first album. The second one was a little boring to me.

I'm looking forward to his 3rd album. Looking over the tracks on this particular album , I'm confident Legend will present solid material, but I'm biased in this case because I'm an ardent fan.

Me too. His debut album is a little more stronger than the sophomore effort IMO.

Has anyone heard John Legend's new song "Green Light?"

Andre3000 is featured on the song.

You can hear it on his MySpace page.

I'd agree that "Once Again" should have been received far better than what it was, which is a shame with the strong material that was on there. His duet with Corinne Bailey Rae is excellent. Hopefully that will be nominated for a Grammy this year. I hope that this new song with Andre 3000 isn't the first sign of a "my label's forcing me to be more commercial or else"-type deal that forces him to make lesser music.

"Green Light" is hot. I love it. Unfortunately, radio isn't warming up to this single at all.

What the hell does John Legend have to do to get a hit single?

Easy... Do a collaboration with T-Pain or Lil Wayne.

I thought the first album was bland especially that Ordinary People song. Count me in as a fan of Legend's 2nd album. :

I happen to know there’s a girl in a light shade of blue,
I happen to see her - the sight of her leaves me confused
She may not be youuuuuuuuuuuuuu
She looks just like you.
She may not be youuuuuuuuuuuuuu
She looks just like you.

Maxine...she looks just like you

Maxine...she looks just like you.

Maxine...

Maxine...

Maxine....
