Sony-BMG confirmed that Colombian singer Shakira will release a new single at the end of June. The single will be released in both English and Spanish.
Both versions of the single will appear on her as yet untitled album that will come out in October. The album will be recorded in English and will be launched in an English-speaking country. Five or six months later the 8 times Latin Grammy winner, and 2 times Grammy winner will be released another new album in Spanish.
Despite the rumors, the first single from the album will not be a duet.
Word is, she’s going to do collaborations with everyone from Wyclef Jean her “Hips Don’t Lie” song partner, as well as Redone, Pharrell Williams, Toby Gad, Calle 13, and Gustavo Cerati

Also, Shakira has inked a millionaire deal with global concert promoter Live Nation. According to reports, the Colombian has landed an agreement between $70 and $100 millions with the firm, which has Madonna, U2 and Jay-Z among its latest additions. Shakira ranked forth earlier this year on Forbes’ world richest female musician list. The songstress still has contract duties with her old label Sony BMG that includes two studio albums and a greatest hits collection material.
The New York Times highlights the philanthropic work of Shakira in an article published this Sunday, June 7, 2009
"Shakira’s Children” is the title of the article that the prestigious New York Times was published in its magazine this Sunday. Journalist Scott Malcomson traveled to Colombia this past February and writes a vivid chronicle of the inauguration of the Pies Descalzos Educational Institute in the region of La Playa in Barranquilla, as well as Shakira’s visit to the Foundation’s school on the pacific coast of Quibdo. The article also tells of her participation in the last Ibero-American Summit of Presidents in el Salvador, where she represented the ALAS Foundation and championed policies that favor early childhood development.
Scott Malcomson, an editor at The Times Magazine, is the author of “One Drop of Blood: The American Misadventure of Race.”

I'm really not anticipating any new Shakira music and this is coming from someone that liked her debut singles and some of her sophomore effort singles.

Yeah I know..lol
Oh well. I might be surprised. I hope the new material is as good as "La Tortura".

Well she's been gone for like forever and really hasn't done much to keep her name in the minds of the public. Does it surprise you that people might lose interest?

Not really I can see why people would lose interest in the english comunity, but she can afford to stay outta the media (well, at Least with her worldwide fans)
The song will be both in spanish and english so that will help her alot.
She's very underrated, she does it all, sing, dance, produce, write, and all that. And she does it all very good. Better in Spanish but still a great achivement and evern better if she's doing it in 2 languages. That's the main reason I really respect her. ( Plus she's gorgeous and that body! )

There is a song that leaked online a month or two ago that was another collaboration between Shakira and Wyclef. I'm not sure what its called, but it was another hot collabo. At the time I thought it was a leftover from the last album, but after hearing that she is collaborating with Wyclef again on the new album, that might have been a new song. Has anyone else heard it?
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak Adele for "Hometown Glory" Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody" The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' " Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"
I highly doubt the world needed another Shakira English album.
I hope it's a good one because I really like her, but the world didn't need it, and neither did she.
Last year she was still releasing singles from her last album, which proves the longevity of her spanish speaking records, and it was a good song, not some throwaway 4th or 5th single that nobody cares about, while her English effort barely got off thanks to Hips Don't Lie which wasn't even on the original album.
I don't understand the need to keep doing this, she knows how it's gone for her before, why not put a couple of English tracks on the Spanish album, release them as singles in English speaking countries and that's it.
To me, it's as stupid as those double albums that people seem to think are better than picking the best songs from both and making only one.
Pop star Shakira is creating buzz for her new single ‘She-Wolf’ with a cannibalistic viral campaign. In the video above, a NYC tour bus passes by a she-wolf attacking a pedestrian. The she-wolf is a Shakira lookalike—a curious coincidence.
The buzz on Shakira’s ‘She-Wolf’ single is that it will be released later this month, but details are scant. Check out some other unusual viral campaigns below.

Shakira has the #1 song of the world in 2006 with "Hips don´t lie" from the 8 million selling album ORAL FIXATION VOL. 2 Her Oral fixation tour made almost 200 million dollars and she presented it in more than 100 cities worldwide. Fijacion Oral vol 1. also sell 8 million copies worldwide giving a total of 16 million. Shakira and Madonna are the only ones that can still manage this kind of numbers cause are famous all over the world ( Britney, Pink, Beyonce and Christina are behind her in ticket sales and album sales). The problem was that in America the singles released after Hips dont lie were not hits like overseas. Repeating this formula of 2 albums is a great way for making money for the record company, they know what they have.

I agree with you
Shakira is the most sucessfull singer in all America (since Argentina to Canada) and with Madonna, the best selling music female artist in the world.
Her last world tour was the largest tour of a major recording artist in years, and her double album (Fijación Oral Vol. 1 & Oral Fixation Vol. 2) sold more than 15 million copies, a true record for our times.
Also, She has the worldwide song of the year of 2002 "Whenever, wherever", and the worldwide song of the year of 2006 "Hips, Don't Lie", and "La Tortura" was Nº 5 in 2006
That is why Live Nation already made a big contract with her (More than 70 million dollars for her next albums and tours). Right now she is the crown jewel.
Surely if "She Wolf" is a good single could easily become the song of the year in the World, again for her
I'm definitely looking forward to a new Shakira album, but mostly because I'm waiting for her to get it right. I wasn't a huge fan of her first English language hits, but "Hips Don't Lie" got the right vibe (even though it was WAY overplayed). "La Tortura" was such a great song and it did well in the U.S., which proves that she can do Spanish language stuff and have success here. English language stuff is fine, but HDL proved it needs to have a Latin vibe.
Benito, you got it right. I don't know if she should just slap two English language tracks on her albums, but a mix of the two would work, as long as the vibe is consistent.
And I don't think she's been gone too long. That just makes people eager to hear more from her.

She could definitely go #1. Shakira has a MASSIVE fan base around the world, and not to mention, she's extremely talented. But I wouldn't mind another "Hips Don't Lie" kind of success from her and possibly more grammies?
For Your Grammy Consideration: Not Whitney Houston
