Toronto, a Best New Artist nomination for Keri isnt out of the reach,I actually think that if the next few months remain weak, she'll get in! But she also has to score a Solo hit in order to be in contention. I honestly dont believe that just writing songs for other artists and having hit collaborations will be enough.

I'm not saying that's all she needs to have. Of course she needs to keep pushing out hits.
Let's not get carried away with discrediting a (new) artist who just so happens to have a couple of hits with some popular artists. I don't remember people discrediting Beyonce when her first two singles featured two popular artists. I don't even remember people discrediting Ciara until recently.
Even though Ashanti was able to get solo hits, she definitely got a big push for her features with some popular artists, too. Weren't two of the three songs that helped Ashanti break a record features? Ashanti was actually the featured artist on one of the songs. Does that take away from anything? Outside of this board, no one really cares whether an artist has hits with features. A hit is a hit.
Give credit when it's due. Sure, Keri may have gotten a push because she had popular artists featured on her songs, but who's to say that those songs wouldn't have been hits had she excluded those folks? Maybe the reason why those songs were hits was because they were actually good. Keri is still very much new. If it's a constant trend, then continue to argue.
With that being said, I hope Keri releases a solo hit to shut the naysayers and nitpickers up. It's really not that serious.

What your saying is true and no one is discrediting Keri but you cant really compare her debut year to Ashanti's. Even though Ashanti got help from Ja Rule and Fat Joe, she also wrote songs for other artists, got her own hits and her album sold really well. (Something Keri hasnt achieved yet). Leona proved last year that just because you score a hit doesnt mean you'll get nominated. The same could happen to Keri but no one knows for sure. I hope Keri gets a solo hit and gets a BNA nomination. She does have alot of support but after what happened to Leona and Jazmine last year people are just taking into consideration that it could happen to Keri to. Times have changed since Alicia,Ashanti,Beyonce,Britney, and Christina have won their first Grammys. Just cranking out the hits isnt enough to get nomiated and I think we all can see that from this years Grammys!

Ashanti had a lot of success during her debut year. Keri's debut year doesn't compare. But how much competition did Ashanti have that year? But that's another debate for another time.
Keri wrote majority of the songs on her album and has written for many artists, including Mary J. Blige and Usher. So, I don't see what point you are making.
Since when does having a solo hit = BNA nomination? Ciara anyone? I'm not getting into an argument over the Grammys because at this point, the Grammys are uninteresting. If she gets one, then she gets one. If she doesn't, then she doesn't. Still doesn't change the fact that Keri is experiencing success right now. A Grammy nomination won't change that.

Ashanti's album also sold 500K the first week and garnered Ashanti another record breaking feat. In the long run she sold 3 Million in the US so like I said there wasnt anyway she wasnt gonna get a BNA nomination. And competition doesnt have that much to do with it, she still would have been successful. She went against Tweet and still came out on top.
Yes Keri wrote her songs and has had hits but her overall success with this album doesnt compare to Ashanti's at this point. That's all Im saying. And no one ever said Keri hasnt experienced her fair share of success because she has but with the Grammys shifting gears this past year by nominating less popular acts that havent done much on the charts, we are just considering the fact that Keri might not be nominated. I'm rooting for her to get a nomination but nobody can really say at this point.

Nope. Nice try though! There are artists that are even less relevant than her that still get talked about so I dont see the problem. Now as you were!

Anyway back on topic. How much longer is that craptastic song "Boom Boom Pow" gonna be #1? It's one of the worst songs I ever heard! They might as well write their names on the Best Rap Duo Or Group trophy because their gonna win!

I wish for next week but it ain't gonna happen.
BEP's airplay numbers are huge as well as their digital downloads. I say they will be on top for 2 more weeks.

Actually, "Boom Boom Pow" isn't a bad song. It's rather catchy. I think it has a great chance of getting a ROTY nomination and a win in Best Rap Group.
