Will Drake's album be released by the August 31 deadline? If not, he may not be submitted to Best New Artist.
I agree. That's why I think people are overhyping Drake's chances at a BNA nomination. He might end up like Chris Brown and receive a BNA nomination the following year.
Can't believe Mariah Carey's "Obsessed" debuted at #11. That song is terrible. Hopefully, it will fall down the chart. I will vomit if it cracks the top 10. upchuck

Please. If complete and utter crap like "Keeps Gettin' Better" can be Top 10, there is no reason "Obsessed" can't.

Question: In order to receive a BNA nod you have to have an album out ?
Yes. In the early 80's you did not have to have an album out. The rules have changed since then.
Is that really the rule? This is the first time I'm hearing about this. It will be weird if he wins Grammys this time around, only to be nominated for BNA next time around. Very weird.
There has to be some loop hole. What if material released from an upcoming album is eligible? (Like "Best I Ever Had") Could an artist be eligible for BNA then? A first single is pretty much like an album-pending status.

Why is it that when someone doesn't like a song it's considered "hatin'?" You people kill me.

There is a difference between simply saying you don't like a song and saying you will vomit if it makes the Top 10. And I don't know the last time I have read anything positive you have said about Mariah. If it acts like a duck....

You are not eligilbe for BNA if you have already been nominated for Grammys. So, I believe as long as he is submitted to BNA than he will be eligible. If you have eligible material for the first time ever, you should be eligible for BNA. The only reason we haven't seen many with nominations like that is because most artists release their first singles and album within the eligibilty period. I don't believe the rules changed, I just think it happens less often.

If Drake is nominated for any Grammys this year but fails to receive a BNA nomination, then he won't be eligible for BNA the following year.
I'm not sure if Drake will be eligible for BNA this year or not. That's not my discrepency. There hasn't been many BNA nominees that were nominated or won before their albums dropped... at least not in recent years. For example, Chris Brown's first single was released in Summer 2005 but his album wasn't released until December 2005. Most of us would have thought he would have been eligible for the 2006 Grammys. He failed to get recognized until the following year.
I can see the same thing happening to Drake. I don't see the panel (not the NARAS) picking someone who doesn't have an album in contention. They might want to judge the artists on a collection of material, not just a song or two and a feature. I think we'll have to wait and see Drake's status, but I don't think he is necessarily a shoo-in for a BNA nomination, not this year.

Darling, if you can recall back to last year and just recently this year, I stated that Mariah Carey's "I'll Be Loving U Long Time" was a hot single. That was the last time she put out anything remotely good in my opinion. You're so busy looking at what you perceive as negative to even see the positive. And you do have to admit that Mariah's last few singles have been horrible. I'm not the only one on here who thinks and says this.
What has really bothered me as of late is how hard Mariah tries to act like as if she is still a 25 year old female. We get it that you want to constantly stay relevant but that act is kinda played out now. Don't get me wrong, Mariah is a legend. I like her music and most of her albums. I just wish she would put some stuff out that brought her a bit closer to a Pop sound she dominated the 90s with. I'm sick of the featured rappers and hiphop beats on every single she releases as of late. Mind you, some of those tracks were good, I loved "Side Effects" feat. Young Jeezy & "Migrate" feat. T-Pain. But overall, I want a change with Mimi.

You're probably thinking about artists in the 80's. Irene Cara and Jennifer Holliday were nominated for Best New Artist without an album being released.
