I know there's a lot of people who like this girl on these boards. I think she has a great voice. Anyways, her first single "Spotlight" just dropped. Has anyone else heard it? What are your thoughts?

Singer/actress Jennifer Hudson has christened "Spotlight" as the lead single off her long-awaited debut album, which as previously reported, is due on September 30th via Arista Records.
Other tracks slotted for inclusion on the disc are "Pocketbook", "Depreciate", "Can't Stop the Rain" and the India Arie penned "Greatest Creation".

This is what I've been waiting for! I love Jennifer Hudson and I really like this song. It's real catchy and the production is quite cute. Her vocals are stellar as usual. This song has potential to be a hit and is very Grammy friendly. It's good they're dropping the first single now. Talk about promoting early. Can't wait to her debut album drops.
I like the track, though I think it's pretty safe. I think it will be big in the AC and Urban AC charts, and not really affect pop/urban radio, though that's not a bad thing. This is definitely her niche, and I'm glad she's not trying to make herself "hip" to appeal to a more youthful crowd. I think she did good. I wish her success.

I do like "Spotlight." As stated earlier, I do think that it's safe (and it does sound like a Stargate/Ne-Yo production), but it should be a big enough hit to help give her album the commercial promotion that it needs.
Funny thing is that this sounds more mainstream than anything Fantasia has released.
This is a nice lead track. This can get a repeat. I think there was so much doubt about if she could sound more mainstream. There was no doubt that she could sing, but alot of people thought that she was going to sound to "broadway-ish". This is a smooth grove and a nice teaser for the rest of the album. Good job.

I'm sure there are other tracks on her album that require her to let out those powerhouse vocals. This is a track that was best suited with the vocals she delivered. She didn't overdo it with forced power vocals on this track which is good.

Right, she didn't over do it. The song didn't require any "big" moments for it, either. I must also note, i've played it quite a few times, and I like it more each time. Very nice single, suited for her style! GET IT, JENNIFER!
Hotter than cable TV like something out of your dreams!
