Classof2006, why are you giving into all the hate and negativity about Ashanti??? We know your a fan of hers, just continue to be one no matter what others say here. Lots of ignorant comments are made on boards.
I know Im just playing around.Ashanti really isnt doing anything important right now and Im bored so I thought I would poke fun at Ashanti so people wont think Im a fanboy and call me names for liking her.
This video reminds me of when Ashanti first came out she had that petition against her receving the Aretha Franklin Award. It was basically Ashanti vs. The World and this situation kind of reminds me of it.
"Be" you can be Bootz since you hate Ashanti the most,Mr.Talented you can be Lala,Im gonna be Deelishis,T White can be Saaphyri,Gucci can be Buckeey, and Double D can be Buckwild. Am I missing anyone?

Since when is someone's opinion ignorant?
If you disagree with what's being said, fine. However, don't dismiss it as just an "ignorant" comment. That's extremely condescending.

I wasn't directly targeting you Be. I said there's lots of ignorant comments made on the boards. More so, when artists threads get hijacked by dumb ignorant comments that really add no validity to the topic. Your entitled to your opinions of Ashanti. You've actually made some valid points that could be debated as to why Ashanti isn't as popular as she once was. But how many times does it have to get repeated and thrown into others faces? We also have many other posters who come in posting the same comment how she is so talentless and useless. Then we have board members like yourself who proclaim their happiness that Ashanti is failing. I don't understand why someone has to go out of their way and celebrate when someone else's fails and then make that artists fans feel like shiit on the boards. I find it totally disrespectful to Classof2006 and the other fans of hers on these boards. Before you reply I'd like to let you know that I'm personally not attacking you or your contributions to these boards. I just wished everyone was totally respectful to one another on here. Like is the nickname "Ashiitty" really necessary?
Yes, Ashanti flopped.
Is she talented? I think she is. She's had many hits in the past. I just don't think she's gone the right route this time around to resurrect her career. She needs to change up her image, sound. She basically needs to do something different. I feel like the new album is the same ole Ashanti and she hasn't matured and evolved musically. I'd hate to compare her to Rihanna but it seems like Rihanna's image revamp, new sound, etc. when she came out with "Umbrella" did wonders for her career. Ashanti needs to follow that same formula. However, I just think it might be a little too late for the girl but we'll see what she does next.

When did you become such a pacifist, torontophenom? Lol
I think you're thinking too much into it. I think Ashanti is talentless, in every aspect. And I hate to see someone who I think has zero talent be successful; it doesn't warrant it. I don't think Ashanti's level of "artistry" warrants any type of success, whatsoever.
It's wonderful for me to see someone like Ashanti no longer have a career. Why? To put it simply, she doesn't deserve one.
I usually agree with Be, but I have to respectfully disagree here.
To me, if anyone works hard for a career then they deserve it. Obviously, Ashanti has worked hard for her career and was very successful in the beginning. I loathe Britney Spears; I think she's a no-talent hack whose dance moves are all credited to Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. To me, she's just a wannabe Madonna. All that said, she's still worked hard for her career and I think that all her hard work, devotion, and dedication paid off.
Talent or not, if you work hard and devote yourself to something, then I think you should reap the rewards of your labor.
Talent or not, if you work hard and devote yourself to something, then I think you should reap the rewards of your labor.
How come I'm not famous?! (J/K)
I agree with Be on if you don't have talent you shouldn't be sucessful but then again If you put effort you should also be rewarded but not to the extremes.
(And then there are the talentless people who don't do anythinig at all, just change their image a bit and boom they have a number one single, those do truly make me sick)
Ashanti is getting what she truly deserves now (I honestly don't mean it in a bad way, I know I'm no fan of hers but this it's honest) I would easly place her as a better vocalist than Rihanna, Ciara, Cassie, Cristina Millian, Britney and countless other but not as high as Beyonce or Christina Aguilera. (Alicia and Fergie I'm still undecided).
In my oppinion she got extremely lucky when she debuted in 2002. There wasn't any other female R&B act arround, Aaliyah had died, DC was on break and no one else debuted, so people just had to settle for her. She is working a bit harder now and making an effort so I'll give her props for that but she can't really keep up when competition comes arround.
If you don't have talent, then you have to find good material (eg Rihanna). Ashanti's first album had some decent singles, but everything else has been crap and that's why she's flopping. She has nothing to offer right now.
I do agree that Ashanti was very lucky the year she came out. Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, and Destiny's Child were all out of her way because their albums were released during the previous year.
I also agree that had Aaliyah's life not been cut short, Ashanti's success would've been minimal at best. Aaliyah had material from that album that would've lasted her well throughout 2002, which would've certainly derailed all the hype surrounding Ashanti.
As far as the competition is concerned, what ultimately hurt her career was the following year after her debut. Once Beyonce broke out with her solo debut, I think a lot of people realized that Ashanti couldn't keep up if placed in the face of superior competition. Like some of you have stated, had Ashanti's debut been released one year earlier or later, there's no way that she would've been as big as she was back in '02. Alicia Keys had '01 on lock down, while Beyonce had '03. That left room for Ashanti to do her thing in '02 because artists like Mary had already released their albums during the previous year.
She did "luck up" because of timing, but I still think that she's a gifted vocalist. All she needs is the right team to help her revamp her image and sound. It worked for Ciara and Rihanna, who are both inferior vocalists. Therefore, I don't see why the same thing couldn't work for Ashanti. Once Rihanna recreated her image and released "Umbrella," she began to experience the most successful chapter of her career -- a chapter that is still being read on the Billboard charts right now.
Ashanti can do the same thing.

Im not to sure about Ashanti.People just hate her because they dont think she's talented, but there are other artists out there that cant sing any better than she can and they get praised like they are Mariah Carey. How come you guys go ga-ga over Britney,Gwen, and Fergie and Ashanti can certanily outsing them.I also find it pathetic that you guys want her to fail.In case you guys didnt know Ashanti is also a songwriter. She has written songs for J.Lo,Ja Rule,Toni Braxton, and Christina Milian, just because she isnt the best singer doesnt mean she isnt talented. She's also a producer and an author. Can u guys say that about Rihanna,Ciara, or Britney? No you guys are being way to hard on Ashanti. She has way more money than any of us will see in our lifetime,so I wouldnt keep talking about her.And even if she dont her boyfriend has sold Millions of albums and has 2 clothing lines. He has enough money to take care of them both!

I totally agree with you, though you lose some credibility since you just posted that you think Beyonce is a better singer than Whitney Houston. (hehe)

I also disagree about 2002.Tweet,Kelly Rowland,Mary J.Blige,Brandy, and a few other female artists were out on 2002 yet Ashanti still had a better year than all of them.Heck she had a better year than Pink,Britney Spears, and Avril Lavigne and these are the 3 women Ashanti beat for "Female Artist of The Year" at the 2002 Billboard Awards.Ashanti had PLENTY of competition,so that wasnt why she was so successful! She also had her hits with Ja Rule and Fat Joe so that helped.
She has made some good songs over the years and yet you hatin ass bitches still come down on her.
Foolish,Happy,Rock Wit U,Rain On Me,Only U,and The Way That I Love You are all good songs,IMO!
I dont know why you guys keep hating on her but as long as all these other talentless tricks are here why cant Ashanti be here?
Beyonce and Christina are like the only one that can really sing a song a tear it up!

I agree that Ashanti is a FAR better vocalist than Britney, Ciara, and Rihanna. I also think that, musically, her output has been superior to that of Britney or Ciara. However, Rihanna has recreated her image and sound and has been hugely successful. She released a fantastic album full of great records. So, I can see why some find Rihanna more interesting. As of late, she's put out better music than Ashanti has.
As for Fergie, I STRONGLY disagree with you that Ashanti is a better singer. Fergie's range is superior and she has more control. Gwen is a better artist than Ashanti, which may be why people prefer her; however, I do think that Ashanti is a better singer.

Fergie does not have a superior vocal range when compared to Ashanti. Fergie does have more power and control but not the big range. For me Fergie and Ashanti are tied since one has control and power and the other one has a better range. If Ashanti controlled her voice better then she'd be superior vocally
The problem with Gwen is that, currently, she's not showcasing what she's capable of vocally. A lot of her solo material, although catchy, really does nothing for her, as far as a representation of her vocal talent. If you compare her work now to her work with No Doubt, you can clearly hear the decline in her voice; she's holding back.
Gwen has the range; she just doesn't use it...and I mean that literally.

I think people were mainly discussing Ashanti's lack of competition within the R&B genre. Mary shouldn't be mentioned here. The majority of her success that era came in '01, during Alicia's reign and period of world domination. By the time Ashanti came onto the scene, No More Drama (and Songs in A Minor, for that matter) had pretty much cooled down. Aside from the fact that Aaliyah was no longer around, Ashanti was able to have so much prominence/success due to Alicia AND Mary (the biggest R&B Divas of '01) both not making much noise during that period; all the noise they made was made a year prior to Ashanti's debut. The Tweet, Kelly Rowland, and Brandy mentions are apt; however, that really doesn't do anything but complement the notion that Ashanti had no REAL legitimate competition during her debut.

How inappropriate. Lol

Glad you put "IMO" which signifies you have a clear understanding that everything you're saying here is pretty subjective.

That's a great justification (sarcasm). Personally, anyone who I feel has zero talent, shouldn't have a career to me. However, I think Ashanti is the prototype of a talentless artist (the biggest no talent to debut in recent memory), hence why I mention her and not really anyone else.

Beyonce and Christina are like the only one that can really sing a song a tear it up!
Again...subjective.
