Music Review Unexpected (2008) Michelle Williams (Musician)
By Josette Compton The once ''shy'' former Destiny's Child member, who has previously released two successful gospel albums, ditches her good-girl image for a more seductive, edgier style on her third effort. Unexpected pumps with technodriven tracks like ''Hello Heartbreak'' (which is reminiscent of Kylie Minogue) and made-for-radio cuts like the leadoff single, ''We Break the Dawn.'' Although the album's effervescent club feel tapers off near the end, when the songs grow formulaic, the album's charm could still give Michelle Williams a shot at the charts. Mmm.... I don't know what to say about Michelle. Maybe she should focus more in the UK or Europe like Kelly. It just won't happen solo here in the states. She needs some new management as well.

I understand the value of friendship and loyalty and all, but the fact is that she (and Kelly Rowland) needs new management.
We all know who their manager is, and he's biased towards Beyonce's career. It's understandable, but that doesn't make it fair. Kelly and Michelle are talented too, and they both deserve fair shots at similar solo success. They haven't had even a fraction of Beyonce's success because her dad manages them too.
I have both of Michelle's gospel albums. If you haven't heard them, then you should. Both of them are fantastic pieces of work. I think I might pass on this one, even though I did actually like "We Break The Dawn."
AMG has given Unexpected 3/5 stars. I may buy it anyway. I'm really interested to hear her sing R&B/pop/dance as a solo artist since she's only done gospel.
Plus, it just isn't like me to not buy anything from the Destiny's Child camp.
I like Michelle's voice but this album is crap. Sorry, folks, but I think this one is D.O.A. and deservingly so.
The last song on the album, "Too Young to Love," is really, really awful. It's so bland and cheesy. There's no excuse whatsoever to include garbage like that on an album. The uptempo songs ("Hello Heartbreak," "Hungover") are okay but they lack strong hooks. The last half of the album is a complete bore.

It's very, very mediocre.

BIG thumbs down from me.
So Beyonce had to delay her singles because of a piece of crap!!!!
I'm never buying nothing from Michelle ever again (I never do, but just to say)
God Bless B for being such a good friend!

It's a given Michelle Williams' album is a flop. Wasn't the album released today? I've seen zero promotion for it. Does MTV, VH1 or BET even play her video? What Michelle needs to do is get new management and get with songwriters and producers who can help create a sound and vision for her. It's a shame because she has a nice voice. Just crappy management and material.

Did you see Michelle Williams on Wendy Williams' talk show last month?
Wendy asked her about "the BET scandal."
Apparently, BET wasn't playing "We Break the Dawn" because it wasn't "black enough." Michelle denied the rumor.
I think BET played "We Break the Dawn" a few times, but was it even on 106 & Park?

No, I didn't see Michelle Williams on the Wendy Williams show. I rarely watch that show.
LOL @ "We Break The Dawn" not being "black enough." Doesn't BET play Rihanna videos?
The few times BET, MTV and VH1 do decide to play music videos, I never see "We Break The Dawn."
BET plays Rihanna videos all the time. I vividly remember them putting "Don't Stop The Music" into heavy rotation, so I don't see why they can't play "We Break The Dawn."
That new Jack White/Alicia Keys duet is also on BET's playlist now. There's absolutely nothing "black" about that song.
And whose week is it this week. Beyonce's! LOL!!!! Michelle boo move on! I mean how much dumber can her and Kelly be. It's supposed to be Michelle's week with her NEW CD. And who steals all the spotlight this week BEYONCE! What a mess.
The album is a guaranteed flop yet again.

Yeah, I heard about the whole BET scandal a few months ago...thats a mess, cause they definetly play Rihanna and others like there is no tomorrow.
I feel bad for Michelle and Kelly...cause they are too blind to see the truth. Beyonce is squashing their potential musical careers, and they are too stupid to see it. Thats a real shame. They need to get new management, and new friends, lol, cause that is just ridiculous. For one album, I can excuse...but both of their second (and additional) albums are floppping. And thats a shame. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Beyonce and all...I just think that they need to move on...Beyonce is advancing in her career (multi-platnium CDs, high-grossing worldwide tours, movie deals, numerous awards, heavy endorsements, major fashion line, and a marriage to one of the richest men in hip hop history), and they are struggling to survive...I'm surprised they are even paying their light bills on time, lol...
