This project has been so long awaited, I think it will be a prime candidate for a spot in this category. The competition does not appear to be that great this year that he shouldn't get a spot.
The 5 likely are: Onmyradio- Musiq Soulchild Chrisette Michele- Epiphany LOtUSFLOW3R- Prince The Point of It All- Anthony Hamilton Black Summer's Night- Maxwell
I'm sure some of those are subject to get the boot, but it should look something like that.
And after that we can Ketchup like tomato. We can make love in Italy in the grotto. Fresh off the jet at the met, they screamin' bravo, bravo, bravo.

Yeah, Maxwell should have no problem getting in Best R&B Album this time around. It's shaping up to be a very weak year. He probably won't win since Prince is in the running. Also, I can understand why Now was snubbed back in 2001. The competition was insane back then.
"Pretty Wings" is such a beautiful song. The vocals and lyrics are just brilliant. He should definitely crack the Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song line-ups. It's a shame Maxwell, like Jill Scott, has never been nominated for a songwriting Grammy.

I think he can get in. Who else are contenders?
Oh man. I forgot Mama's Gun was eligible that year. Erykah Badu should've gotten in over Aaliyah or Mary J. Blige. "Didn't Cha Know" should've been in R&B Female, too (over Blu Cantrell or India.Arie---there's nothing outstanding about the vocals on "Video" or "Hit 'Em Up Style").
Anyway, I just hope Maxwell can finally win a Grammy this year. He's long overdue for one---12 years and counting.

Yeah that's pretty embarassing. Maxwell should've gotten an R&B Song nod for any of the singles from his first album. And we all know Jill Scott's "A Long Walk" deserved an R&B Song nod.

I think Aaliyah's album deserved a nomination. It was highly praised by critics, even before her death. So, her nomination was very acceptable. I would have probably given Mary J. Blige's and Destiny's Child's spots to Erykah Badu and Maxwell. If there were six nominees, then I would have kept Mary's spot and given just DC's away.
Maxwell definitely deserves a songwriting nomination (Jill as well). I honestly think this is Maxwell's year. Hopefully, he can sweep the R&B field and land a SOTY nomination. He should definitely win Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. If he wins, then he will definitely be one of the best winners in this category from this decade.

I disagree. As much as I like Erykah Badu, her vocals have always been rather unimpressive. I think NARAS got it right with India.Arie and Blu Cantrell in Best Female R&B Vocal Performance that year. Tamia would have been a great addition too.
Also, I thought Aaliyah and Mary J. Blige deserved their Best R&B Album nominations. In fact, the line-up was cool just the way it was. Since the competition was so crazy, that should have been the first year where they split the R&B Album categories into Traditional and Contemporary.

I hope so. But his album wasnt better than "Survivor". Destiny's Child KILLED it with that one!

Have you ever heard Now? It was a much better album than Survivor.
Survivor had a few bangers, but most of it was filled with typical "hoodrattish" mess. It pailed in comparison to DC's previous efforts. It only got in because it was a huge hit at the time. The critics and many fans disliked it.

Yeah, i'd definitely say it was my least favorite of mine from them. But they more than redeemed themselves, imo with their "final" offering Destiny Fulfilled.

I LOVE me some Maxwell. He is my favorite male singer, so I'm beyond excited he is finally putting some new stuff out. Pretty Wings is AMAZING and, IMO, he has at least Male R&B clinched. If this song is an indication of what the album will be like then the album would have a good shot at winning in the R&B field as well. Of course what I would really like to see happen is him getting some general field love, but that is going to be a stretch unless a single takes off or he is album is overwhelmingly loved by critics.
FYC-Album of the Year: Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night
Originally posted by musicluva123: Does anyone know if "Pretty Wings" is available on iTunes yet?
You've probably discovered this already, but just in case, YES! it is on iTunes, listed as: "Pretty Wings (Uncut)". When it debuted a week ago it did pretty well on the iTunes Top 100 songs, but I'm not sure if its on the chart anymore.
At this point, Maxwell IS WINNING the Grammy this year for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance and will get nominated for R&B Song and Album. There isn't a current contender that could steal the award from him as of now. The only thing I can think of that could prevent his win is if Usher releases a new album and has a solo track that does ridiculously well at radio.
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak Adele for "Hometown Glory" Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody" The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' " Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"
Usher probably won't release anything until the very end of the year. I really don't think anything he puts out would top Maxwell's "Pretty Wings" quality wise (maybe commercially). Maybe it's too premature to say that, but Usher's music hasn't been up to par with a lot of musicians lately, including Chris Brown and Ne-Yo. But I guess we'll see.
Maxwell is my current front-runner for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. I wouldn't mind him taking R&B Song or R&B Album. He deserves it after all the years of putting out quality soul music and never being rewarded.

It's not like Usher did well at this year's Grammys.
Grammy FYC: Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak; Black Eyed Peas, The E.N.D.; John Legend, Evolver; Paolo Nutini, Sunny Side Up; David Guetta, One Love; Kelly Clarkson, "Already Gone"; Jordin Sparks, "Battlefield"; Kings Of Leon, "Use Somebody"; Maxwell, "Pretty Wings"
It looks like a very rare occasion where Best R & B Male Vocal Performance will be a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more interesting race than female this year. There are some excellent contenders at this point.
Maxwell, Pretty Wings Ginuwine, Last Chance Ne-Yo, Mad Musiq Soulchild, So Beautiful Charlie Wilson, There Goes My Baby K'JON, On The Ocean Avant, Sailing John Legend, Everybody Knows The-Dream, Rockin' That Thang
To name some possible contenders.

I agree! I love the songs by Maxwell and Ginuwine!!! I was thinking that the Charlie Wilson song would go into Traditional R&B Vocal Performance though...but you never know!
Other contenders for R&B Male Vocal Performance include:
Jamie Foxx - "I Don't Need It" Jeremiah - "Birthday Sex" Bobby Valentino - "Hands On Me" Madcon - "Beggin'"
