I'm not sure how far this thread is going to get since it isn't about a mainstream female artist, but I decided to start it anyways.

Melanie Fiona is a new Canadian R&B/Soul artist. Her debut album, The Bridge, was released internationally in June, but the album hit US stores on September 22th. I've heard this album months ago, and I must say it's one of the better offerings of the year.

Her first single was "Give It to Me Right," which samples The Zombie's "Time of the Season." She has two new singles out: "It Kills Me" and "Bang Bang."

Here's the video from the latter: http://luvdc.blogspot.com/2009...fiona-bang-bang.html

She reminds me a lot of Amy Winehouse and a bit of Jazmine Sullivan. I actually prefer her over them. I'm not sure her Grammy chances this year, but she deserves whatever she gets. She's one of my favorite new artists of the year. I would consider her my favorite female new artist of the year. It doesn't hurt that she's a beauty.

What's your take on this new phenom?

Are you sure her album has been released in the U.S.? It's not on Amazon. Melanie was on Wendy Williams not too long ago and Wendy said the album was being released in October. dunno

Hmmm... Interesting. It's available for sale on iTunes, and September 22nd was the date Universal Motown was pushing. Every site I go to, it says her album was slated for release on Sept. 22.

Then again, her album was supposed to be released on August 18th. She is slated to perform on BET's Rising Icons sometime in October. You might be right. I have to check into that.

Well I do like "Give It To Me Right." The sample is well used and the song is just plain sexy. As Randy Jackson would say "We got a hot one!"

But where's her promotion? "Give It To Me Right" sounds like a hit to me.

I have no idea! I want to know where the promo is as well. She's definitely a talented girl, and I would hate to see her go nowhere. I don't see much success for this album, but it's still hot.

I am really searching the net to find out if her album is pushed back yet again. That's hardly ever a good thing, especially for a new artist!

I thought Melanie Fiona's album was already released. No wonder I couldn't find it when I was looking for it.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "Give It To Me Right." That song should be a hit. Not only is the video cute, but homegirl looks so hot in it.

Her label is better off waiting until next year to submit her for Grammy consideration.

The album is out in other parts of the world, just not the US. It leaked on the internet in June. I've been listening to it since then, but I wanted to support the album.

I wonder if her album will be eligible this year since it was released in other parts of the world.

I'm a big fan. I put her in my BNA predix just because if there is a god she should be there. "Give It To Me Right" seems like a pretty sizeable hit in Canada. I don't know the numbers, but it was played in the radio a lot.

She reminds me too much of Jazmine Sullivan. I guess I'll just have to give her sometime until I like her music...

Vocally, there are some similarities. I think Melanie is a better vocalist than Jazmine, and while Jazmine put out a solid album, Melanie's album stands out more to me. Jazmine's music is generic, while Melanie's has a retro feel to it. She reminds me a lot of Amy Winehouse, but Melanie has a better voice than her as well.
