Michael Jackson Dies Posted Jun 25th 2009 5:20PM by TMZ Staff
We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.
Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.
A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.
Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.
We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.
La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.
Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.
TMZ is reporting that Michael Jackson was taken to an LA hospital from his home after an occurance of cardiac arrest, and that his family is gathering at the hospital. Initial indications are that this is more than routine.
LATimes reporting that he was not breathing when medics arrived at his home; he was given CPR on way to UCLA Medical Center. Since his arrival, no reports apart from his family arriving, and a couple comments that this is quite serious.

Poor Michael... I'm sure rehearsing for his 50 shows in London wore him out as he didnt seem in 100% health in the first place. I hope he's okay. Honestly this does not surprise me, I just knew something would come up before those shows start in 2 weeks.

CNN and other mainstream media are not going to repeat TMZ's report, but TMZ unfortunately is usually reliable enough (and has very good sources with media and LA paramedic types) that it is not strange if they got it first, if true.
They would not have gone with this if they did think it was 100% true.
KCAL showing even more cordoning off at the hospital; reporter says unprecedented preparation in many times high profile celebs there; they say "a major news event is being prepared for."

You can livestream KCAL 9's reports; they have a newscast going on, likely will stick with it.
Old media (TV, newspapers) are loathe to repeat a website's exclusive, both because many are less credible than journalistic rules require, but also because they hate to be scooped by TMZ or similar.

If TMZ has reported this prematurely and they turn out to be wrong, can we finally shut down that ugly gossip e-rag?
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
