I agree to the extent that I'm not going to criticize Mariah for missing a note, whatever the reason. But I find it disrespectful and "in the wrong spirit of the event" to make the performance all about you, which is exactly what Usher did.
I also noticed when Usher said "especially me..." I was like "WTF?".
However, I don't think it was his intent to make it about himself. He looks up to Michael, and I do believe that he was emotional, but I do see where HerMadgesty is coming from.

Most people got standing "o"s...and I was watching in my work office and everyone was cringing at Stevie's vocals.

You're right. And I originally wasn't saying that I thought he was intentionally faking it or trying to make it about him. I think he's just an inherently self-important person, which I guess is kind of worse.
I thought it was a classy memorial, the performances and speeches weren't indulgent as i thought they would be. Paris Jackson was just heart-breaking, I couldn't help fighting back tears! Plus, I just discovered Judith Hill (the lady who sang "Heal the World" in the service).

The best musical performance was, by far, Ms. Judith Hill. I was in total awe watching her, especially after being disappointed by every other performance aside from John Mayer and Jermaine Jackson. And I loved Al Sharpton's words of comfort too. Also loved Andre Crouch's choir singing We Are Going To See The King at the beginning. Took us straight to chuch, and the r is left out on purpose.

I'm sorry Al Sharpton rubs me the wrong way. I can appreciate his words of comfort. However I didn't/don't like it when he said to the kids "there was nothing strange (or was it weird) about your daddy" A. There was no reason to say that to the kids B. As great as Michael Jackson was musically, he was indeed different...so that isn't really even a true statement (and no I'm not trying to bash or disrespect MJ...I'm just stating facts) Like I said I can't/won't fault Sharpton for paying respects to the man...but that statement just came off wrong to me

I don't think there was anything wrong with Usher's "especially me" comment. I mean, Usher adored Michael Jackson. People are making a big deal over nothing. I loved Usher's performance
I rewatched the memorial again yesterday and it was so touching. Jennifer Hudson just blew me away.
I agree that some are making a big deal over nothing, but saying that everyone was gonna miss MJ "especially him" was quite inappropriate when the entire front row was lined with family members.
I'm sure Usher did love Michael. He was one of Usher's inspirations as an artist and entertainer. However, I'm sure that Michael's family loved him more.
Some things shouldn't be said. But I don't see this getting much attention anyways. It was the thought that counted, and Usher performed well. It was just something that a few people noticed. No biggie.
Since Michael Jackson’s death, Sony Music has shipped 8 million CDs. That’s 8 million pieces of physical product on one artist in 14 days.
Blender Magazine on Kelly Clarkson: " The Texas native has one of the great voices in pop music, a powerful and versatile instrument that’s steeped in the rhythm and blues and country music she grew up with in the South. If Mariah Carey’s five-octave voice is the equivalent of an expensively bred poodle, then Clarkson’s is a bloodhound: friendly, earthy, but fierce just the same."
Baltimore Examiner (concert review): "Her sultry voice is absolutely flawless. The tone and range floors you. When she belts out a note, it's precise yet powerful."
"Music is powerful, it's a drug that makes your inhibitions go away and leaves your vulnerabilities exposed" - KC
Nigel Lythgoe announced on this week's So You Think You Can Dance that they had planned to do a big MJ tribue, but Sony wouldn't release the music. I wonder what their resistance is? What have they got to lose? It's gonna further promote MJ's music to a young audience.

Wal-Mart has all of Michael Jackson's CDs on sale for $7 each, so I went on a shopping spree of sorts with his old albums. It was too good a deal to resist, and the demand is ridiciously high right now.

Yes, I just picked up the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller which also included a DVD for $20. I only had it on vinyl. There are also all kinds of magazines with memorials dedicated to MJ at the newstands right now, and the program that was given out at the Memorial service is now going around on the Net. I'm just happy I had the fortunate opportunity to see Michael perform live in 1984 when I was in L.A. It was a fantastic experience I will treasure always.
R.I.P. Michael.

I was told earlier today that the hearing for where the kids are to be placed has been delayed. No surprise there.
I think that Janet should be the one who gets the kids because from what I have heard, she is the youngest of Michael's siblings and is also the only one of the family who wanted to stage an intervention so that Michael would get help for his drug problem.
I know that Michael left the kids to his mom, but why should she get them when she is old and still married to the man that she let beat on Michael and his brothers?
God bless you and the little ones always!!!
