"Front-runner" is used quite a lot around these parts.
I was wondering how do you classify a "front-runner" for an award.
Does it depend on the artist, the timing, success or other factors?
Discuss.

my user name derived from a shen-gong-wu.
Front-Runners are usually the favorites.
For Your Grammy Consideration: Not Whitney Houston
I base it on any combination of the following factors: - critical acclaim - chart success - commercial acclaim (sales) - past history (indicating who are "favorites" moreso than others)

Tell em' Mr. T!
Athough, I'd add if they lead in nominations, especially in the general field. If they happen to be a legend, chances are, they will be taking home quite a few gramophones.
