Updated:

DON’T STOP ’TIL YOU GET ENOUGH: Forget our sales projections from Friday morning. Michael Jackson’s Number Ones moved nearly 225k at Wal-Mart, easily making it the best-selling album this week. We’re told that about half of the end caps were taken up by M.J. product and that, in some locations, Jackson CDs were merchandised in at least a half-dozen other areas throughout the store. The selling price was $9 even. When sales from other retailers are added in, Number Ones will easily top the 300k mark in sales this week. Holy mackeral. (7/6a)

I'm surprised "HIStory" didn't make it onto the chart. It was selling well on Amazon last week.

Grammy FYC:
Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak; Black Eyed Peas, The E.N.D.; John Legend, Evolver; Paolo Nutini, Sunny Side Up; David Guetta, One Love; Kelly Clarkson, "Already Gone"; Jordin Sparks, "Battlefield"; Kings Of Leon, "Use Somebody"; Maxwell, "Pretty Wings"

^ Yeah, but what's weird is that the History single-disc greatest hits is the one that was selling. The original album with his duet with Janet and "You Are Not Alone" doesn't sell very well. If Dangerous can still sell, that one should too. It's not a bad album.

BUT . . .

Michael Jackson Dominates Billboard Charts

In the first full week following the death of Michael Jackson at age 50, and with retailers fully prepared for the onslaught of buyers, the fallen pop idol sold an astonishing 800,000 solo albums, dominating the charts in a way not seen since his heyday in the early 1980s.

According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Jackson's sales nearly doubled from the week before, with his music occupying all 10 spots on the Top Catalog Albums chart, led by "Number Ones," which sold 339,000 copies, a 215 percent increase from the previous week.
Unlike the reporting period ending June 28 (just four days after Jackson's death), this time retailers had a chance to stock up, so physical albums represented 82 percent of MJ's sales, nearly double the figure from the previous one, according to Billboard.

Jackson's iconic "Thriller" album sold 187,000 copies (an 86 percent increase from the week before). "The Essential Michael Jackson" comes in at #3 with sales of 125,000, followed by "Off the Wall" (51,000), "Dangerous" (26,000), "Bad" (23,000), a Jackson 5 compilation (10,000), a solo "Ultimate Collection" (just under 10,000), his final solo album, "Invincible" (8,000), and "Greatest Hits -- HIStory, Vol. 1" at #10 (close to 8,000).

Jackson's albums dominated the Top Pop Catalog charts, which tracks albums that are more than 18 months old and don't have a current single on the radio. Though the discs were not eligible for inclusion on the Top 200 albums chart, the top two Jackson titles easily bested that chart's top album, the "Now That's What I Call Music!, Vol. 31" compilation, which logged 169,000 in sales.

This makes two weeks in a row where catalog albums have soundly outsold the Billboard 200's No. 1, something that had never happened before in the chart publication's history. More Michael Jackson albums were purchased during this past week alone than through the entire first 26 weeks of 2009. Count it as just one more testament to Michael Jackson's lasting impact on pop culture.

It's easy to "B" labeled the best when you have all the top producers and song writers doing your work for you.

I went 3 times already to try and buy "Dangerous" and it wasnt stocked at either Best Buy or FYE. I didnt bother trying Wal Mart since I felt that place would be sold out of his albums even faster.

AOTD = Kanye West

It's easy to "B" labeled the best when you have all the top producers and song writers doing your work for you.

Looks like 50 Cent did influence Rick Ross' decline in sales, ouch.

More importantly, can anyone get the sales for all the MJ albums, I'd love to watch those sales grow each week.

Come to think of it, MJ is prolly gonna be a hot XMAS item, yes?

Im thinkin his Number One's has to be damn near double platinum by now (already certified platinum).

Essential's are probably platinum as well.

Thriller might get certified 30x's platinum by the end of the year, surpassing the Eagles Big Grin

29x's platinum for some type of greatest hits album of their's. MJ's "Thriller" got certified 28x's platinum before his death and now is one of the 3 main albums of his flying off the shelves after he died.

Yo Im convinced Toronto must be in the industry or a Billboard employee lol. You are the MAN for these numbers!!!

Im assuming a lot of the numbers shown are from the initial album's re-release, cuz "Thriller" only shows it cleared 5 million....?

It's SoundScan numbers. Soundscan began to track sales in the early 90's. The sales have been cumulative since.

I didn't realize the Eagles had an album that was certified 29X platinum. Red Face

Those Michael Jackson numbers are amazing.

Any word on this week's numbers?

Here are Michael's SoundScan totals for his studio albums combining the original with the re-releases:

Off The Wall - 1,747,282
Thriller - 5,040,188
Bad - 1,200,231
Dangerous - 6,057,182
Invincible - 2,137,312

Dangerous is the only one not combined with it's original release (although the original release only sold 125 this week).
