Er, you are right. It was "Vertigo" that beat "American Idiot". Going back to change my other post. Not that it matters. Sentiment is still the same. Okay, U2 is one of my favorite bands, lets be honest. However, no freaking way was "Vertigo" a better song than "American Idiot". I will never forget Bono going up to the stage to collect that Grammy and actualy looking surprised and saying something like "We thought Green Day was going to win." Yeah, me too, Bono.
The Ting Ting's "That's Not My Name" is really picking up steam, at least on the college scene. But then again the Blue Ribbon Panel really isn't tapped into what's actually popular.

"The Dead Weather" is Jack White's new band with Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of The Stone Age and past touring member of The Raconteurs) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes and Blanche). Their first single dropped this week and you can hear it here: www.thedeadweather.com Really sexy bluesy raw sounding tracks. LOVE IT!! The full length entitled "Horehound" will drop in June. The record was cut in Nashville in 15 days time and was produced by Jack who also is taking the role of drummer in this band. The band was revealed just this week at a special event for fans and friends at Jack's new Third Man Headquarters in Nashville. (which houses a recording studio, photography studio, dark room, performance stage and vinyl record outlet) Extremely cool all the way around and back and getting tons of buzz in the rock indie/alt world that is sure to fever pitch when the full length is released. The Kills are on tour til early summer at which time The Dead Weather will likely do some touring to back this release. Jack White has won 8 grammys to date...will this release go unnoticed? Unlikely I would say.
Side note: The White Stripes will have their next release in 2010 according to Ian Montone, their manager.

I think the nominations for Best Rock Album will be:
AC/DC - "Black Ice" Green Day - "21st Century Breakdown" Bruce Springsteen - "Working On A Dream" U2 - "No Line On The Horizon" Neil Young - "Fork In The Road"
What do you think?

After listening to most of the 21st Century Breakdown album, Green Day better beat U2 for the Grammy for Rock Album this year! I'm not a big fan of the first single "Know Your Enemy", but if "21 Guns" gets released, it deserves to win Rock Duo or Group...especially over "Get On Your Boots"!
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak Adele for "Hometown Glory" Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody" The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' " Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"

I didn't liked 21st Century Breakdown, I thought it was just an American Idiot-redux. It would be fair if it wins over U2's album which is just horrible, but The Killers and AC/DC albums are the better ones, if you ask me.

Please add Linkin Park's new song "New Divide" to the list for BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE BY A DUO OR GROUP. Granted, the song is not very original; but it is shaping up to be the highest charting Rock single of the year - possibly even hitting #1 unless it is crushed by the American Idol onslaught. As such, its exposure alone might carry it to a nomination.
FYC: "Up" for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director
MGMT could snag a Rock Group nomination for "Kids"; they have had great reviews this past year and the song went top ten on Rock and Alternative stations.
Animal Collective will likely win the Best Alternative Album award.

Early Alternative Field Predix: ~ Yeah Yeah Yeahs, It's Blitz! ~ Metric, Fantasies ~ Franz Ferdinand, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand ~ Grizzly Bear, Vecktamist
and then the last spot could go to either Phoenix, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix Lily Allen, It's Not Me, It's You (if she goes here and not pop) Passion Pit, Manners (though they'll probably go electronic, so this is a longshot should they go alternative) Ida Maria, Fortress Round My Heart (if she can get a best new artist nod, though this is a stretch as well)
but I think it'll be The Dead Weather, Horehound, since The White Stripes won this category for their last three albums. I'm pulling for a Phoenix nod though.
