He released it last month, I believe. I think two weeks before Usher's album was released.

Vampire Weekend, Feist AND MIA??? You officially rock.

The most amazing tracks I have heard are Know By Now and My Friend Misery by a band called Vacuum (swedish). My friend misery is a duet with Marcella Detroit (ex-shakespeares sister). These are not just songs they are music for the soul......

Here is the link.

You know, I kind of agree. Last year at this time there were a couple of albums that were flat out excellent by this point.

This year..not so much. Death Cab, Vampire Weekend, Colplay, and Santogold are the only albums that I can really listen to the entire way through.

Everyone in Africa knows Swedish.

If people I don't even know look at me and want to f*ck me, it means I have a really good shot at being a model.

Lily Allen's album will defintely be one of the best of 08 if the album is anything like the demos.

Portishead's Third is still the best album of the year. I have yet to hear anything that comes even remotely close to trumping it.

I'd like to retract this statement.

I remember a while back bildo10 made a thread about this chick named Santogold; however, I've only recently put up the initiative to become acquainted to her. Late? Perhaps. And it was totally by accident, but that's an entirely different story.

Anyways, upon listening to this album, I'll say that the comparisons to M.I.A. are apt (especially on "Creator"); however, Santogold is easily the superior of the two. Reason one being fairly easy in the fact that Santogold has a wider vocal range and because of this, she's able to sing/execute a wider variety of songs more authentically as compared to her British contemporary. Reason two: the genre bending between the two artists are similar...however, Santogold is fairly more consistent. Although she's touching various genres, she's able to keep her sound pretty invariable throughout the duration of the album. M.I.A. (in comparison with Santogold) is all over the place and a little more distorted. Reason three: Santogold shows better, deeper, more intellectual songwriting. This doesn't take anything away from M.I.A., who delivered stunningly with Arular and Kala. However, Santogold is on another whole plateau...and her debut album Santogold trumps both of M.I.A.'s album efforts and is easily the album of the year for 2008.

In conclusion, I'll be the first on Gold derby to go on record and say that while M.I.A. is good, Santogold is THE SH*T.

And I'm done.

Nah. I didn't like Santogold's album outside of "Creator" (which I had already heard when it was on Grey's Anatomy quite a while ago).

I'm curious to know what exactly about her album didn't you like?

I admit it took me several repeated, back to back spins to get into it. But now, I can't stop listening to it. Just wonderful.

And "Creator" and "LES Artistes" are easily the best records of the year.

Agreed. Santogold's album was one that I didn't love right away. But it's also one of of those albums that i can continuously play.

And does anyone else think this is a great year for debuts? I mean between Santo, Vampire Weekend, Black Kids, She and Him, hell even Kate Nash, Ting Tings, The Virgins, Adele. All are at least B's to me.

I don't remember a run of debut albums this good since The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah all seemed to piggy back off each other. It's a lot to live up to for album numero dos.

I agree! If "Migrate" would have been the second single, the album would be doing a lot better than it is now....or at least wouldn't have slipped down nearly as fast.

Cold War Kids might give Santogold a run for her money as the best album of '08. "Something is Not Right With Me" is awesome.

1. Santogold, "LES Artistes"
2. Cold War Kids, "Something Is Not Right With Me"
3. Coldplay, "Viva la Vida"

Highly anticipating:

my top 3 singles of the year so far:

3. Radar by Britney Spears

this song is really a love it or hate it song. IMO, it's the catchiest song of the year. Its pure pop genius and easily the best Britney song. It may not have been released as a single in America but its tearing up the charts and radio here in New Zealand. Im normally not a fan of pop but I know a good pop song when I hear one. This, plus a brand new Britney Spears who'm Ive always enjoyed makes it number three on my list. I really do hope this song gets a release in America.

2. Viva La Vida by Coldplay

What can I say? everything about this song is amazing. The lyrics, the melody, everything is great. Record of the Year is locked down already. This song is almost perfect but....

1. Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon

This song is my favorite of the year. It's so raw and evokes such passion in me everytime I hear it. it makes me feel a different emotion everytime. Its just AWESOME.

Congrats to all the acting Oscar winners! and even the Coens for Directing and Diablo Cody for Original Screenplay....still There Will Be Blood and PTA shouldve taken Picture and Adapted Screenplay though

2. PLEASE DON'T STOP THE MUSIC by RIHANNA ("I wanna take you away/Let's escape into the music, dj let it play/I just can't refuse it/Like the way you do this/Keep on rocking to it/Please don't stop the, please don't stop the music..")

2. FAME (THE GAME) by DONNA SUMMER ("Everybody wants to be a star/It's all about who they think you/Pulling up in a crazy car/The front door is your garage/Everywhere an entourage/Play like you've been living large/Super platinum credit cards/Lend me your blah, blah, blah/Be careful what you wish for..")

I'm surprised at how much Madonna is on people's lists. It's a shame the album isn't doing better.
