I always hear everyone talking about Rihanna,Keyshia,Katy Perry,Britney and other Female Artists that people find their voices to be unappealing but who are some Male Arists that you think cant sing at all or very well.2 come to mind for me:

Akon and T-Pain.Not even the "instruments" in the studio can help them stay on key. They have to be 2 of the Worst Male Vocalists of this decade!

Chris Brown isn't too hot. Don't let the synthesizer fool you. Ne-Yo isn't that great of a vocalist, but he has an alright tone. Basically, any R&B male who sings the typical OOHs and AHHs, showing no real vocal ability.

Chris Brown and Ne-Yo are okay but I'll take them anyday over Jesse McCartney and James Blunt.James Blunt sounds like he is on haze when he sings!

I think my only problem(s) with Chris Brown is that he sings like he's straining or has a cold. He breathes hard a little too much. I don't take too many singers seriously when they are using a vocoder to deceive their fans.

Trey Songz is an alright singer. I never saw the hype with him. His voice is your basic R&B male voice. Everyone sings the same to me, except a few males. Eric Benet, Maxwell, and a few others from the 90s need to coach these dudes.

Justin Timberlake is another hyped voice. He's good, but he ain't that good.

Great topic!

It's about time we started talking about the artistic merits of male artists.

Does anyone else notice that there are a lack of truly great mainstream male vocalist these days?

As for the topic at hand, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown are mediocre singers plain and simple. Fortunately, they have other talents (dancing, writing, producing) to fall back on. Akon and T-Pain are awful.

Justin Timberlake, Usher and John Mayer are all good singers but none of them are great vocally.

I think Andre 3000 has a horrible singing voice. It should be illegal for him to sing a whole song (ditto for Kanye West).

I'm not a big fan of Bob Dylan's voice either. He's actually a pretty mediocre singer. Anthony Kiedis (RHCP) has an irritating voice, too.

Ray J is a HORRIBLE singer, too. His voice is paper thin.

I like The Dream's music, but his singing is B-A-D. He tries to do gimmicks with his voice to distract from the fact that he really can't sing.

Ray-J, Chris Brown, Jesse Mcartney and James Blunt come to mind.

Ne-yo and Justin Timberlake are mediocre by today's standards. There's also one guy from Boyz II Men who is extremely whiny/nasal.

Bob Dylan is a horrible singer, but I think even he would admit that. He's extremely talented in other areas too.

Akon/T-Pain hurt my ears.

I actually like Justin Timberlake's voice. He has a lot more range than a lot of the other male artists out there.

But as far as male voices I find annoying:

Akon
Chris Brown
Ne-Yo
John Mayer (I don't like the "accent" for lack of a better word that he has when singing")

It's easy to "B" labeled the best when you have all the top producers and song writers doing your work for you.

Chris Brown
Ne-Yo (though he gets respect for being a writer)
Justin Timberlake
I won't list T-Pain because he really isn't a singer.

To be honest, there aren't any pop acts these days with a true stand out voice. Even old acts with short careers in the 90's had better voices (i.e. Jodeci, SWV).

AOTD = Kanye West

Yes! Thank You Classof2006! This is one of my specialties (Me being a singer and a male)

Here's my List

Horrible
-Chris Brown
-T-Pain
-Ne-Yo
-John Mayer

Passable
-Justin Timberlake
-Usher
-Ryan Tedder
-Adam Levine
-Jesse McCartney

Good Singers
-Josh Groban
-Robin Thicke

It's kinda sad how the worst ones are mostly Lyric Tenors, so are the passable ones and the Baritones are the good singers.

Well The first that came to my mind is "Bob Dylan". He is a great writer, but singing is not his biggest quality. He is like a cat with a sore.

Mick "Stupid" JAgger is in a close second... his voice is horrible and his actitude is worst. There music, however is great.

Bono´s voice annoys me quite a lot. IT took me time to get used to it and now i start to like it. I prefer the lyrics of their songs better though.

I do not like "hip-hop" or "rap". So for me most of the rappers sing horrible. But that is my particular taste.

And of course "Enriquito Iglesias". He has no voice. He has not talent... but he successes... It get me on my nerves thinking that he has a grammy when Bjork and Jewell has none. Among other big artists.

ITA about Bob Dylan. One of the greatest songwriters ever but what a godawful voice. Especially stuck out like a sore thumb in the Traveling Wilburys.

Same deal for me with Lou Reed and Neil Young.

And out of the current crop of male artists, Adam Levine and Chris Carrabba are the ones whose voices probably annoy methe most.

I think that John Legend is, arguably, the best male (mainstream) singer today.

I just wish he had better material to showcase his voice.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. I think that Elliot Yamin is THE best male vocalist out today.......followed by Jason Mraz (who can SAAANG). Anthony Hamilton, although not mainstream, is above John Legend also.
