It is our jobs to be loyal to our favorite artists. And we've witnessed that loyalty firsthand here on the derby...
Mariah Carey (DCurrie, Troy, fionalive, and Emptyheaded) Beyonce (MrTalented, A_mb88) MJB (popride and yours truly)
But when the rough gets going and the going gets rough, I often hear people being dismissed as simply a "stan" or a "fanboy."
But is that really offensive to people?
Take me, for example. I know I stan for Mary J. Blige. I don't deny that. But the way I look at is that my "stan-ish" ways are just a testament to my loyalty...and it seems like that should be the type of fans an artist wants. Not the fickle type.
Being a devoted fan and being an obnoxious stan are two different ball parks.
Being a devoted fan = supporting and promoting that artist no matter the circumstances, but also giving them criticism when necessary. Defending that artist when necessary classifies as being a devoted fan.
Being an obnoxious stan = believing that artist is invincible, that he or she is better than everybody, is a higher being, etc. Cursing or threatening someone when they are not a fan of that artist, etc.
Being an obnoxious stan (or hater) is never healthy, IMO.

I agree with Musicluva. I LOVE Beyonce but when some of her stans call her "Beysus" I cant deal with that because that's very disrepectful to God. Just the other day I heard someone say Chris Brown is "The Way,The Truth, and The Life" and I was like WTF?
Stanning is bad, you're basically killing your credibility to be considered an unbiased fan. Like we all know Beyonce is overrated, but others cant handle that fact.

Being considered a "stan" or "fanboy" isn't nessarily bad until they start pitting their favorite artists up against other artists, start making YouTube videos/blogs/Imbd posts about the artists they say aren't as good as the artists they stan for, and bring up the artists they stan for in situations that have nothing to do with that person.
