It sucks that they're album won't be #1 in the U.S. They would be the first artist since 03' to have a #1 record and album and the U.K. and U.S. at the same time.

I think they will have the number album in both countries my friend, and if lucky the number one single too!
COLDPLAY’S IN TUNE FOR #1
Capitol Group Shatters iTunes Records, as Disney’s Camp Rock, Katy Perry, Judas Priest Also Bow
June 18, 2008
Somewhere in London, EMI’s Guy Hands is breathing a sigh of relief. That’s because Capitol Music Group’s Coldplay will debut at #1 on the HITS Album Sales chart next week with their latest, Viva La Vida, thanks to record-breaking sales at iTunes, with a total that should be between 650-700k, and possibly even higher.

I believe they are considered "alternative" and "alternative rock" is how I see them listed all of the time.
Viva la Vida is an amazing exciting song. I love that it's based on a painting by Frida Kahlo and written from Death's point of view. Chris Martin's vocals sound like they are lifting you to heaven.

I just read from Rolling Stone that they're releasing it June 16th in the U.K. and June 17th in the U.S and it's callled "Viva La Vida Or Death And All Its Friends".
I can't wait for the album to come out. But I have a question. I have a hard time classifying what genre they are but I think its piano pop/alternative rock. Proceed.

The title "Viva la Vida" is the name of a Frida Kahlo painting. Apparently Chris Martin saw it in a friend's home (I think Madonna owns that one) and was totally impressed that a woman of such a tragic life could still paint such a beautiful image and use this title.
Beauty among death and sorrow.
Perfect title.

Originally posted by Nasdaq: I don't know what I think of the title but hopefully the songs will be good like their last album. They just released the songs and said it will be a short record with 9 songs and will be 42 minutes long. These are the songs that they've made and they are in the process of choosing what'll be on the album.
"Famous Old Painters" "Glass of Water" "Lost" "Cemeteries of London" "Violet Hill" "Poppy Fields" "42" "Yes !" "Leftrightleftrightleft" "Rainy Day" "Prospekt's March" Strawberry Swing" "Lovers in Japan" "Song for the Escapist" "Death & All His Friends" "Life In Technicolour" "Chinese Sleep Chant" "Reign of Love"
I love these titles and I'm pretty sure "Death & All His Friends" will be on the album and be the title track. I also must say that I loved X&Y even though it could get tedious. But A Rush Of Blood To The Head was far superior.

I agree with you.......Clocks grabbed me from the start and never let go. One of my all-time favorites by anyone.......I think "Viva la Vida" might even surpass Clocks for me and that is saying ALOT.

Originally posted by Atypical: This is a solid album, but I don't think it's their best one. It doesn't surpass "A Rush of Blood to the Head", which might have been their peak, and for a short album (10 songs and 45ish minutes running time), it's a ponderous work that loses focus in places. Coldplay is overdue for recognition in AOTY though, and it feels like the right time to award them. This album could definitely get them in there, and "Viva La Vida" is the song that'll push them over the edge with voters. It's bloody brilliant and transcendent, and it might have overtaken "Clocks" and "Yellow" as my favorite song from them to date. I liked "Lovers in Japan"/"Reign of Love", "Strawberry Swing", and "Lost!" too, but they're not too radio-friendly. "Lost!" could work though.

Awesome amazing album. I love every track, but I think I'm the first to truly rave about track nine, "Strawberry Swing." I absolutely can't stop listening to it.
Talk about taking a bite out of the Apple. Coldplay’s Capitol album Vida la Vida, thanks to a brilliant pre-release campaign topped off with a $25 million iTunes ad spot and a chart-topping single, debuts at #1 on this week’s HITS sales chart with 729k in sales.

Week Ending June 29, 2008: Viva La Download Or Death And All His CDs
by Paul Grein
Coldplay holds at #1 on Billboard's album chart for the second week with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. But the big news is that, in just two weeks, Viva La Vida has sold more downloads than any album in digital history. The old record was held by John Mayer's Continuum. Viva La Vida sold 66,000 downloads this week, bringing its two-week total to 354,000. Continuum has sold 353,000 downloads since its release in September 2006. The rest of the all-time top five albums with the most paid digital downloads consists of Amy Winehouse's Back To Black (329,000), Daughtry's Daughtry (323,000) and Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds (301,000).

I'm hoping that changes with the next single.
This is a great album and I hope interest doesn't fizzle out.
i dont think so, both Duffy and Coldplay are doing okay and i dont just say it because i'm british but because i believe it. the new videos are great, i've always had a crush on Chris Martin.
