"...Solange has no reservations about sharing personal experiences. Tracks like breakup song 'Valentine's Day,' the regretful 'T.O.N.Y.' and the Pharrell-produced lead single 'I Decided' all demonstrate her storytelling abilities." - Billboard Magazine

Another song, "White Picket Dreams" (which is supposed to be on the album), has been leaked for a while now. It's quite impressive. She clearly has a knack for solid songwriting and composing and appears to have a pretty decent ear for melodies. She has talent.
As far as songwriting, I think Solange is superior to Beyonce. However, Beyonce is superior vocally.
Lyrically, I don't think I have any qualms about this song. All together, it's pretty solid songwriting...some of the most substantial I've come across recently.
Thanks for the link, Be. I'm gonna listen to it ASAP.
I really hope it becomes a hit T White. I know that most people will only see her as Beyonce's little sister, but the girl is very talented. Considering the female singers out right now that are around her age bracket (and tearing up the charts), I think that she deserves just as much attention as most of them. She's a wonderful songwriter, IMO.
I never heard her first album because I didn't like the singles. I still don't wanna hear it, but I really am anxious to hear this album.
BTW, Solange also co-directed the "I Decided" music video.
It's an OK song. I mean, I think she knows she has to do something different so she isn't compared to her sister (I wonder if this would be the type of music she would be making if Beyonce wasn't her sis???)
But the song is more intelligent than anything Beyonce has done, but it just doesn't scream hit to me. That throwback vibe really doesn't seem to translate into hits very often--look at "Honey" by Erykah Bad, which this song reminds me of.
Good effort, but I wouldn't count on this making her anymore popular than she is.

Totally agree. Saw it on TV the other day and was really surprised.

I completely agree, but I much prefer quality over something that's not that good and translates into a hit. No, "Honey" wasn't a big hit. It went top 25 on the R&B charts, but the fact that it's the most brilliant R&B track I've heard all year means more to me as a fan than if it blew up and was crap.
Like I said, I agree with you. I don't think that this song will make her any more popular, but I think it's a strong record that really showcases her skills as a vocalist and composer.
Ive listened to several leaked song of Solange's on youtube, I am very impressed! I def. think I will pick up her cd, since I'm sure it'll be 7.99 lol.
