I don't think the show's hype stemmed from Michael Jackson's death.

The vast majority of the show's hype came the second Jamie Foxx was announced as its host. Do I think he did a good job? I think he was decent. I actually expected him to possibly become the best host in the show's history, but I just have to accept the fact that no one will ever top Mo'Nique's hosting job in 2004. Period.

After her, pick either of Steve Harvey/Cedric the Entertainer's hosting gigs to fall in second place. I'd put Will & Jada in third; I thought they did an EXCELLENT job hosting the show in 2005.

There's a reason Mo'Nique has hosted more times than anyone else. I say bring her back for the 10th show next year. That's a milestone. Why not bring back your best host to celebrate the show's first decade? Hell, it would be exciting to see her, Steve & Cedric share hosting duties. That would be FANTASTIC!

I'm black, so before people throw stones at me, this show was indeed a bit on the ghetto side. But the show gets ghetto when your host allows it. Jamie lent to that this year. Will & Jada didn't. Steve & Cedric didn't. Mo'Nique didn't. Hell, not even Damon or D.L. did, and they were horrible emcees.

As for winners, Beyoncé has won Best Female R&B Artist more times than anyone else, now that she has THREE wins to her name. It doesn't look like that award is gonna go to anyone else outside of her, Alicia, Mary, & India.Arie. They're still the only four who have won. Missy Elliott has won a whopping FIVE female hip-hop artist awards, but who's really shocked by that? She's the most successful female hip-hop artist of all time, both critically & commercially.

For males, Usher still holds the record there with three wins. Kanye West, T.I. & Jay-Z all tie for the most wins among male hip-hop artists with two wins apiece.

I agree. Monique did an AWESOMES job every year she hosted. Her best year was in 2004 followed by 2003 then 2007. I would out Will and Jada after her because they unexpectantly did a good job, then Steve Harvey and Cedric and the rest were just WACK! Here are my rankings:

1.Monique-2004
2.Monique-2003
3.Will and Jada-2005
4.Steve and Cedric-2002
5.Monique-2007
6.Steve and Cedric-2001
7.Jamie Foxx-2009
8.Damon Wayans-2006
9.D.L. Hughley-2008

D.L. and Damon were absolutley AWFUL! None of their jokes were even remotely funny. upchuck

Seriously, of regular posters, I can only think of 3 or 4. Not that it's a bad thing - just interesting.

o.k. this white boy is feelin outnumbered, haha

"Black Or White"

I Took My Baby
On A Saturday Bang
Boy Is That Girl With You
Yes We're One And The Same

Now I Believe In Miracles
And A Miracle
Has Happened Tonight

But, If
You're Thinkin'
About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

They Print My Message
In The Saturday Sun
I Had To Tell Them
I Ain't Second To None

And I Told About Equality
An It's True
Either You're Wrong
Or You're Right

But, If
You're Thinkin'
About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

I Am Tired Of This Devil
I Am Tired Of This Stuff
I Am Tired Of This Business
Sew When The
Going Gets Rough
I Ain't Scared Of
Your Brother
I Ain't Scared Of No Sheets
I Ain't Scare Of Nobody
Girl When The
Goin' Gets Mean

[L. T. B. Rap Performance]
Protection
For Gangs, Clubs
And Nations
Causing Grief In
Human Relations
It's A Turf War
On A Global Scale
I'd Rather Hear Both Sides
Of The Tale
See, It's Not About Races
Just Places
Faces
Where Your Blood
Comes From
Is Where Your Space Is
I've Seen The Bright
Get Duller
I'm Not Going To Spend
My Life Being A Color

Don't Tell Me You Agree With Me
When I Saw You Kicking Dirt In My Eye

But, If
You're Thinkin' About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I Said If
You're Thinkin' Of
Being My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I Said If
You're Thinkin' Of
Being My Brother
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

Ooh, Ooh
Yea, Yea, Yea Now
Ooh, Ooh
Yea, Yea, Yea Now

It's Black, It's White
It's Tough For You
To Get By
It's Black , It's White, Whoo

It's Black, It's White
It's Tough For You
To Get By
It's Black , It's White, Whoo

sorry, couldn't resist. I got Michael on the brain lately, and this last page reminded me of this song kool

.

Blender Magazine on Kelly Clarkson:
" The Texas native has one of the great voices in pop music, a powerful and versatile instrument that’s steeped in the rhythm and blues and country music she grew up with in the South. If Mariah Carey’s five-octave voice is the equivalent of an expensively bred poodle, then Clarkson’s is a bloodhound: friendly, earthy, but fierce just the same."

Baltimore Examiner (concert review):
"Her sultry voice is absolutely flawless. The tone and range floors you. When she belts out a note, it's precise yet powerful."

"Music is powerful, it's a drug that makes your inhibitions go away and leaves your vulnerabilities exposed" - KC

- I don't even watch the BET Awards but tuned in because they falsely advertised that it would be a MJ tribute

- They should have just stuck w/ the original plan and performances (still would've mostly garbage though) and done a seperate MJ tribute where they got real talent like many of his good friends at Motown

- Good sessions were the O'Jays, Maxwell, with Janet being the highlight; to hell w/ the coonish movie they decided to advertise right in the middle

- BET pretty much used MJ's death to their advantage and got the highest ratings because of their false advertisement

- I missed snippets of the Unsung episode on TvOne about Florence Ballard (Supremes) because I was holding out for BET
