I used to LOVE John Mayer. Had is albums (including the first, re-released one) a DVD. I honestly don't care anymore. Every song sounds the same. Maybe he'll bring something new this time around.
"Battle Studies" is a weird album title name, but still, I'm always up for a new John Mayer album. "Who Says" is pretty subdued for a lead-off single, but it grows on you after a few listens.
"They made a porn movie about Sarah Palin, and the same actress, Lisa Ann, played me in the porn version of '30 Rock.' Weirdly, of the three of us, Lisa Ann knows the most about foreign policy."

The guy's gotten better with every album, so I'm interested to see if he can top the awesome "Continuum".
Grammy FYC: Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak; Black Eyed Peas, The E.N.D.; John Legend, Evolver; Paolo Nutini, Sunny Side Up; David Guetta, One Love; Kelly Clarkson, "Already Gone"; Jordin Sparks, "Battlefield"; Kings Of Leon, "Use Somebody"; Maxwell, "Pretty Wings"
After my first listen, I'm diggin' the new single. It has a nice country feel to it so it'll be interesting to hear what the Battle Studies has to offer.

I don't like it at all. It's too subdued and the melody just isn't strong enough. No wonder radio isn't touching this single.
I agree- I expected so much more. John Mayer has been embracing his jazz influences so much recently, and Continuum showed that. This single sounds like something that he would have recorded in 2001, not like anything I thought he'd be making in 2009.
Regardless, he will probably win Best Pop Male Performance for it. After all, he wins every two years.

I couldn't disagree more. I think this single is great. So great I'm shocked. Haven't liked a song from him this much since Your Body Is A Wonderland. I also really like the video. It's selling like hot cakes on iTunes right now, and where I live(NYC area) radio is starting to play it a lot.

I actually agree with this. There's something about this song that feels...outdated. I dunno.

This song is great, it sounds clean, not overproduced, not showy, singable, written as an expression of musical creativity (rather than trying to make a hit single!!). Mayer's voice cannot sound any better than this.
What luck - John Mayer and Norah Jones releasing CDs on the same day/week (?). Can't wait.

It's a weird opening single choice for him, but it's growing on me with repeated listens. He was pretty adamant about this being the lead single. He talked about it a good bit on Twitter. The video is striking and one of his best. The direction's excellent. It's funny how everyone's coping "The Hangover" now too. Watch out for this at the Grammys next year. It'll be his year to win in Pop Male Vocal Performance again.

a new song "Heartbreak Warfare" has leaked and I LOVE IT. The lyrics and his vocal performance are outstanding. He's looking at another Grammy. I don't understand why he wouldn't release this as the albums first single over the underwhelming "Who Says" (which sound more like a filler track than a single 2 me).
The more I listen to it the more I fall in love with "Heartbreak Warfare". This ranks up there as one of the best songs Mayer has ever done.
Using war as a metaphor representing the emotional complexities of love, relationships, and heartbreak is genius. My favorite lyrics are:
"Drop his name Push it in and twist the knife again Watch my face As I pretend to feel no pain"
The Antlers "Hospice" = Album of the Decade
