Female R&B Vocal Performance definitely seems to be a battle between Beyonce and Whitney but I wouldn't underestimate a surprise win from Chrisette Michele. Michele is already a Grammy winner herself and in my mind, has as much respect as the two leading ladies. "Epiphany" is a solid record with great vocals so I wouldn't mind seeing that win as well.

I don't think Chrisette would win over Beyonce or Whitney, but that would be a HUGE upset that no one would have expected. I think Chrisette would be the most deserving winner. I don't really care how big "Single Ladies" was really. The video outdid the song, IMO.

I think the nominees will look something like this...

Whitney Houston, "I Look to You"
Beyonce, "Single Ladies"
Chrisette Michele, "Epiphany"
Jazmine Sullivan, "Lions, Tigers, & Bears"
Mary J. Blige, "Stronger"

- Whitney already has a lock on Best R&B Album and Beyonce will most definitely grab Best Contemporary R&B Album and maybe even R&B Song (even though that should and will probably go to "Pretty Wings"). Whitney and Beyonce could split votes and help someone like Michele win.

The only category Beyonce will be winning is Best Contemporary R&B Album.

People might say Whitney wouldn't deserve Best R&B Album if she manages to win, but the same could be said about Beyonce in Best Contemporary R&B Album. I can name about three albums that are better than hers, but she will be the likely winner, anyways.

I'm still don't understand why Whitney's label didn't submit anything to Traditional R&B.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck both Whitney and Maxwell in AOTY for several reasons.

Any one of these ladies would make a strong/deserving winner IMO

Whitney Houston 'humbled' by stars' comeback support

October 1, 2009: WHITNEY HOUSTON was touched after a string of high profile music makers asked to be part of her comeback - insisting she was 'humbled' by the support of her contemporaries.

The legendary diva returned to the top of the U.S. album charts in August (09) with I Look To You, her first chart-topper since The Bodyguard soundtrack in 1993.

The album was highly-anticipated as it marked Houston's first studio release following her much-publicised battle with drugs and the breakdown of her marriage to Bobby Brown.

Hitmakers Alicia Keys and R. Kelly approached Houston and asked to be part of her musical return, and the singer was left stunned by the numbers of influential people who were backing her for a second run at success.

She tells Pride magazine, 'I was humbled by the fact that people like Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys and R. Kelly wanted to be part of the album. They were calling saying, 'Man, I gotta get on there.' I feel blessed about their support for the whole project.'

^ This is why Whitney is a strong contender in the Grammy race this year. The fact that so many of her peers are rooting for her and have embraced her with opening arms says a lot. Also, it's pretty impressive that her album is selling well without a substantial radio hit. She will have a lot of people rooting for her during the voting period. I think she will get 4-5 nominations.

its nice to see people supporting for her and rooting for her but it would be lame if she won grammys just because of that. i wonder how many of these people have even listened to the music.

It wouldn't be any different than Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Ray Charles, Alicia Keys, any slew of veterans/legends winning Grammys for reasons other than "quality." It happens all the time. And I'm sure most of her peers heard the music since a lot of them attended the listening parties months ago.

I agree with musicluva and if Taylor Swift makes it in with the atrocious album "Fearless" she is in. "I look to You" is way better.

LOL ^ Well, I'm not sure if Whitney's album is better than Taylor (haven't heard it), but Taylor has gotten a lot of praise for her album. So, it must be warranted.

I'm pretty sure if Whitney receives major Grammy love (multiple nominations/wins, an AOTY nomination), the b!tching will start. So, let's hope the voters won't fall for that "Welcome back, Whitney. Thanks for getting your life back together." roflmao

Her album is far from bad, as indicated by her overall reviews. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

oh please..... do... it so awful and sadly due to the Kanye episode voters will forget this fact and reward her a nomination.
Heres Fearless the song and the other songs and album gets worse.

I actually hope for a surpise in the country areas with Reba or George Strait nomination for "Twang"

But before all of that Kanye/Taylor stuff, Taylor was getting a lot of praise and hype, and the fact that she has the best selling album of the year will likely get her a spot. "You Belong With Me" is a good song and a guilty pleasure of mine( suicide), so I don't think anything's wrong with giving her an AOTY nomination. A win might be a reach. IDK, though. Like I said, I've never heard the album.

Artists get in due to multiple factors.

^LOL. I never said you were dumb, fionalive.

But who's to say that some of the voters haven't heard the albums nominated, though? Maxwell and Whitney have two of the biggest R&B albums right now, and I seriously doubt that some of the voters haven't heard the albums. Saying that someone will be rewarded for reasons other than quality is speculation anyways. "Quality" is subjective. Not everyone has the same taste in music. Some voters might not even like Maxwell's Neo-Soul sound or Whitney's contemporary Pop/R&B sound. Some might do. The voters can't please everyone.

I don't really care who wins R&B Album. I think it's between Maxwell and Whitney for obvious reasons. I would be happy for either one.

Hmmm. This album got old quicker. Now I force myself to listen to some of these songs, hmmm I don't know.

Anyway, I say give her Best Female R&B Vocal and call it a day.

Trey Songz and Maxwell deserved both R&B albums categories, imo.

.... Even if you are a million miles away, I can still feel you in my bed, near me, touch me, feel me and even at the bottom of the sea, I can still hear you inside my head, telling me, touch me, feel me, and all the time you were telling me lies

I'm not sure how the Grammys are going to respond to Whitney Houston. In all honesty, it could go either way. A TON of support or just genre category love. Not sure.

I think it is important to note that Alicia Keys, R.Kelly, Diane Warren, David Foster, and Clive Davis all have their name on Whitney's album in some form or fashion. Between these people, there is a lot of industry respect and that could push her to an AOTY nomination. I could also see her getting into ROTY for "Million Dollar Bill" and R.Kelly getting into SOTY for "I Look To You." I don't know. Then again...if an R&B album makes it into AOTY, it should be Maxwell's (who BTW...I saw in concert last night and was AMAZING!!!!!). BUT, the industry might also see this as Whitney's last album (whether it is or isn't) and want to award her in a big way.

My only concern with making a General Field love prediction for Whit is the fact that none of her singles have really taken off from this album. But perhaps, maybe she'll just get in AOTY? Or not at all? Who knows...

For Your Grammy Consideration:
Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak
Adele for "Hometown Glory"
Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless
Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight
Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody"
The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' "
Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"

This makes sense. Like I said, it's never impossible for them to pick two R&B albums for AOTY nominations, though. Usher and Alicia were both nominated for AOTY. Missy and Outkast were nominated for AOTY. Both were both nominated in Best Rap Album. Same thing applies to Nelly and Eminem awhile back. So, it's definitely not impossible. I don't think an AOTY nomination automatically equates a win in a given genre album category, as indicated many times in the past. But we'll see which way it goes.

Oh, and a little bit off topic, I'm really trying to make that Maxwell concert on October 22nd.
