2009 Nominees Beyoncé — "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" Britney Spears — "Circus" Coldplay — "Viva la Vida" Miley Cyrus — "7 Things" Lady Gaga — "Paparazzi"
I think maybe "Single Ladies" should win this one. Turning that dance into a seamless "one take" look even when it wasn't (and thus helping it become a phenomenon) deserves a prize.
I really don't know who MTV will go for here. All of them are worthy winners, and three of them were edited by the same guy (Jarrett Fijal). The odds, I guess, are with him (like they were with David Fincher when he directed all but one of the 1990 nominees for Best Direction and won with Madonna's "Vogue"). If this guy wins, it'll probably either be for "Single Ladies," even though I'm still unsure as to whether or not it's a single-shot video. As long as Miley doesn't win it, though, I'm happy (not because the video editing is bad, but because IT WAS A FREAKING NOMINEE LAST YEAR!!!!)
The other two nominees, though, are also strong contenders, and they were coincidentally also edited by their directors. Honestly, I like to see "Viva la Vida" win this one, too, as the editing job seems pretty good despite how abrupt the scene changes were. At the same time, though, the editing does match the rhythm of the song VERY well. Plus, it was edited by director Hype Williams, and MTV loves Hype, so I really think he'll get it.
SHOULD & WILL WIN: Coldplay, "Viva la Vida" POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Any of the three videos edited by Jarrett Fijal

I'd say that this one is between "Paparazzi" and "Single Ladies." I'd vote for "Single Ladies," but "Paparazzi" would be just as deserving.
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

My PERSONAL Ranking: 1. Beyoncé — "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" 2. Lady Gaga — "Paparazzi" 3. Britney Spears — "Circus" 4. Coldplay — "Viva la Vida" ...... .... ... .. . 5. Miley Cyrus — "7 Things"
Predictions: 1. Beyoncé — "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" 2. Lady Gaga — "Paparazzi" 3. Coldplay — "Viva la Vida" 4. Britney Spears — "Circus" 5. Miley Cyrus — "7 Things"
Its either going to be Bey, Gaga, Coldplay, or Britney.
I personally think the editing for "Single Ladies" was brilliant, so I'm going for Bey here as well. Though Lady Gaga, Britney, or Coldplay would be just as deserving.

Apparently, "Single Ladies" was done in several shots, yet it DOES look like it's a single-shot video. If that is so, then the really(!) smooth transitions deserve the award for Best Editing. The editing job is just as smooth Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (the 2006 winner), so its shot at winning is good.
I'd still love to see "Viva la Vida" win, though, as I feel like the editing matched the song perfectly. Then again, though, the more obvious editing jobs don't necessarily fare that well (see losers "Get Right" by J. Lo in 2005 and "Move Along" by the All-American Rejects in 2006), so who knows??
