This is difficult because most current artists are products of other artists themselves. I guess we're asking who's pushing music forward enough to allow a platform for imitation/influence. I can't think of too many artists, but there are some out there.
You can see Gwen Stefani (a genuine contemporary original) in Fergie, new Ashlee Simpson, and even obscure acts like Santagold.
You can see Beyonce in Rihanna, Amerie, and any other female pop-R&B act. Then again, Beyonce is pretty much a retread of Tina Turner.
I think we're gonna end up seeing a lot of Amy Winehouse copycats.
Is Lily Allen's style an original? You can already see that style spread in acts like Kate Nash.
You'd think more people would copy Alicia Keys, but we haven't seen that.
Jack White will probably see numerous copycats in the indie/rock scene.
FutureSex/LoveSounds Justin will likely be imitated. Just look at Ne-Yo's "Closer" video lol. That was so bait.

I agree about Rihanna; however, I disagree with the Amerie mention. If anything, you see Amerie in Beyonce. Beyonce has bit a lot of Amerie's style over the years...particularly from Touch. A lot of the image and sound you saw/heard from B'Day, Amerie had already done about a year or two earlier. Perhaps it's easy to credit Beyonce because she's more global; however, a lot of Beyonce's style now is definitely a part of an Amerie influence.
Beyonce bit off Amerie? Please. "1 Thing" was clearly influenced heavily by "Crazy In Love" and I think that most will agree that, if there is a copycat, it's Amerie moreso than Beyonce. You can even look at the "1 Thing" video and see that. I remember when I first saw the "1 Thing" video and I thought that she seemed to be knocking off some of Beyonce's style.

Right.

How about Robyn??
I think that Robyn is very original and could become a cult favorite that will influence other artists in the long run. However, if that doesn't happen, then I doubt she'll be an influence because she'll lack the popularity to do so.
The current artists that I think will be an influence are:
Beyonce Usher Justin Timberlake Gwen Stefani
Honestly, those are the only four that have some sort of originality that I can see being imitated by others, with Stefani being the most original. Beyonce is heavily influenced by Tina Turner; Timberlake & Usher by Michael Jackson.
Justin is too huge to ignore, but has anyone else noticed that he's really more like Usher than vice-versa? Usher has been doing what Justin started doing 4 years ago since 1997 -- before Justin even hit it big with *NSYNC. You can see Usher's influence in artists like Ne-Yo, Mario, and Chris Brown and I think that he's been a lot more influential than Timberlake. I'd even go as far to say that Justin was very much influenced by Usher, even though he's unlikely to admit it because he's the ONLY male artist that can effectively be called major competition (though Chris Brown is beginning to run very close in popularity to Justin).
Beyonce's influence is already showing through Amerie and Rihanna. Yes, Tina is clearly Beyonce's influence, but Amerie and Rihanna come off more as Beyonce-influenced, not Tina-influenced.
Stefani's style is showing through Fergie. I think that Fergie is the better vocalist, but that's not the discussion I think. Clearly, Stefani has been a major influence for Fergie -- whether or not she chooses to admit it.

well there ya go...."Crazy In Love" and "1 Thing" were produced by the same person...I don' think it was one ripping off the other, that's what happens when a producer is selected by many artists and has a distinct sound...
Christina Aguilera Beyonce Justin Timberlake Kanye West Chris Brown Usher Alicia Keys Gwen Stefani (though she doesn't really count, as she's been in the biz for a while now.) Norah Jones Amy Winehouse Rihanna Linkin Park Lil' Wayne

I totally agree.
My problem with that statement is what exactly is Christina's style? Even she hasn't seemed to settle on that yet. Unless you are referring to big, voiced pop diva which has already been done. I like Christina a lot and think she could be an influence but hasn't really settled on a style yet. Unless her last album (which was great) is an indicator of what style she has settled on, but we have yet to hear what the follow up will sound like

I was thinking a lot of the same things when it comes to Christina. She's pretty popular and has that big voice, but I had a difficult time thinking of what her signature is other than just that. Musically, she as been ALL over the place (I'm not saying that's a bad thing).

I agree, Chrstina I see being a BIG influnce. I notice many young stars saying they Look UP to Christina and are Influenced by her and her attitude/Vocals.

You're not answering the question: influence on what? She has released three totally different albums.
She is not the first woman to have a big beautiful voice and be beautiful herself.
Unfortnuatly I disgaree here both are wonderful and talented but we have heard this sound before....
I don't think anyone has poplurized the "vulgar old-school soul" genre like Winehouse.

Yeah Christina doesn't really have a distinct characteristic.
But I guess versatility is what others will remember her for. Not saying that others aren't versatile, but three albums all being innovative. I think that's what upcoming singers would remember from her.
