NO ONE comes to the Grammy forum anymore except a handful of posters.
I suspect it's because all we talk about around here is female pop/R&B singers. Look at the first page of this forum; it's populated by Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, etc. threads.
Pretty much the Grammy forum is boring. This forum used to be more diverse, but a lot of posters just gave up and stopped coming in here.
So what can we do to diversify this forum and get more interesting discussions going???
Seriously, though, I think Gucci is right. Not much that can really be done. It is what it is and it has been allowed to be what it is for way too long now.

I agree with Gucci, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much else to do.
a) All the other forums-tie into one another through the acting link. Music is the odd man out around here.
b) The other forums have new things to talk about all the time, TV shows are constantly on, movies always premiering. Not that much happens on a daily or weekly basis with music.
c) The Grammys are a pretty much boring award show.
d) In other forums, you can discuss movies or episodes which include lots of things happening and many different individual actors. Music is such an individual game most of the time it's impossible not to have threads devoted to single people.
e) I've heard people who mainly stay in the other forums say that the type of music they like is never talked about here so that's why they never look at it. It's not the fault of the people who are here though for talking about who they do like. I'd love for other people to join in but we can't read their minds and if they aren't going to initiate anything how are we ever supposed to know what they'd rather be discussing?
What else/what other topics did you used to talk about? I can't remember it ever being any different than it is now.
Well I guess Double D's sex life could be interesting!
Naw,but for real I dont think we can do alot. Female Artists are much more interesting than Male Artists so that's why they get talked about so much around here.Until the Male Artists step up and be more creative there wont be many discussions on them.MOST of them are similar and try to hard to emulate Micheal Jackson. With the Females you get diversity and you can tell them apart. Everyone from Beyonce, Rihanna,Alicia,Christina,Britney,Kelly,Ashanti, Ciara,Jennifer,Gwen,Fergie ETC. Some are much more talented than others, but they all are unique in their own way.
Sad but true. I have come across the idea of creating a Grammy Trivia thread, or post threads about rock or other bands that don't get the GD attention, but I know they would drown in the midst of the Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson forums.
Once I started a thread about Youtube and the shutdown of all Warner Group artists so we could have a space for discussion and it drowned in a matter of minutes.
Does it have to do with the current state of the music industry itself, that doesn't bring anything interesting these days?
I don't want stones thrown at me, but does it have to do with our own poor musical tastes or knowledge, maybe?

I started a Tori Amos thread, but you're right anything outside of the big females on this board...well their thread doesn't last very long.

I've tried SEVERAL times over the years to start interesting discussions about male artists, hip hop, gospel, country, etc. and they just tend to go dead rather quickly. After awhile, I stopped attempting. Sometimes some of my threads would get 0 responses and I just deleted them.
Meanwhile, there's a Mary J. Blige thread here that's still alive when it was originally started in late 2007. Not saying that there's anything wrong with that, but that just goes to show what most posters here are interested in discussing.
Now, I just tend to go with the flow of discussion. Like I said, I attempted to start more "unusual" discussions around here, but people's responses were usually short and that made the threads die. So now, I just tend to float around and discuss whatever is already being talked about.
You'll notice that I rarely start threads anymore.
Why does everything have to be so urban-centric? Hip hop/Gospel/R&B. There are TONS of other genres of music out there. I say bring on some alternative or Indie Rock because these genres and subgenres consistently produce better music than urban genres. But who actually listens to that kind of stuff in here? People say they do, but you rarely see Arcade Fire, Death Cab, Bjork, The Raconteurs, Arctic Monkeys, Neko Case, Tori Amos or something like that in people's Top 10's. Instead you see Jay-Z, Beyonce, Mariah, Rihanna, the occasional Erykah Badu, Kanye, and so forth. The problem may just lie in the posters. We don't branch out because we can't. I don't think there is very much knowledge of music and artists outside the urban/mainstream pop genres. Am I wrong?? To improve these forums, we have to get more, quality posters in here who are willing to explore music intelligently outside the typical. You can discuss the best albums ever, but when these albums include ones like Dangerously In Love and Confessions, then the scope of musical depth becomes blatantly apparent because albums like these, while decent-to-good, don't even hold a candle to a lot of music out there. I'm guilty myself; I'm generally good with anything late 80's to present (basically the span of my life), but my knowledge of music outside this period is sporadic at best. When you have posters on here who were born in the 90's or around then , musical scope is even more limited, typically (at no fault really to that person). To get more out of these forums, we have to do something to attract more, credible, intelligent music-listeners. That starts with better topics to discuss and a general sense of relevance in the actual discussions. It sucks when a topic about flash in the pan artists (a legitimately good topic) becomes a female artist vs. female artist, or female artist vs. world discussion.

In the TV forum, certain posters "own" the rights to start weekly threads or season threads for particular shows.
You should recruit posters who are interested to start and maintain and keep active genre threads such as a "Country Music 2009" thread or a "Heavy Metal 2009" thread or what have you. It doesn't prevent people from starting individual artist threads, it just opens up more venues for discussion.
Now if you do that, one thing that people shouldn't do is "Hey, there is a Carrie Underwood thread" so don't post such and such in the "Country Music" thread. In other words, a Carrie Underwood thread could be all Carrie all the time, but a "Country Music" thread should certainly be able to reference her if someone so chooses.
And finally, well, the Grammy forums tend to be a bit b*tchy and rude. More people should report offensive posts and the moderators should do something about it when they do.
And one more thing, if someone says something critical about Mariah or Beyonce or Leona in their 'official' threads - people need to learn to accept that that is, if fact, where those posts belong. They aren't fan threads, they are discussion threads about certain artists.

"Urban-centric" or not, hip hop is rarely discussed and gospel is NEVER discussed.
That also goes to show that people know very little about gospel. There are subgenres within gospel music; there aren't just black artists in gospel, and I think that's the misconception that a lot of people have. If they actually explored it more, then they'd see differently. In actuality, gospel is the entire music industry, only with a common lyrical focus. There's country/bluegrass, rock, latin, pop, urban soul, rap, etc. all in gospel. But few people actually know this.

I know this, MrT. My Mother is a HUGE gospel fan; and my Grandmother sang gospel. I grew up with it. But the only gospel I've ever seen discussed in here (in brief) wasn't as diversified as your list - it was very much skewed to black audiences.
And the occasional Jay-Z/T.I./Kanye/Lil Wayne/Common discussions do pop up, primarily because so much of what's mainstream includes rap/rappers.
