Has past history shown that the R&B album nominated for Album of the Year wins the R&B Album or Cotemporary R&B Album Grammy? If that's the case then Ne-Yo should have this award wrapped up.

WILL WIN: Ne-Yo - "Year of the Gentlemen"
SHOULD WIN: Jazmine Sullivan - "Fearless"

This category is weak as hell. J. Holiday and Karina are the WTF nominees, so the nods are their rewards. Jazmine has the BNA nod and Mary J. Blige has become a favorite in the R&B field. However, Ne-Yo has the AOTY nomination on his side here. Unfortunately, he'll be a back-to-back winner for a crappy album.

SHOULD WIN: Mary J. Blige, Growing Pains
WILL WIN: Ne-Yo, Year Of The Gentleman

Beautifully put.

This category is AWFUL this year. And I'm glad someone else agrees with me that Ne-Yo's album is crappy. "Closer," "Miss Independent" and "Nobody" are hot but everything else is weak. No wonder the album isn't selling.

What are Grammy voters smoking? S*it, I want some.

LOL

I thought Ne-Yo's album was good but nothing extraordinary to warrant it an Album of the Year nomination. I wonder what the Blue Ribbon panel were thinking when they decided that this is one of the best 5 albums released in 2008.

They're smoking the good sh*t. Ne-Yo's album will win, but it's a TRAVESTY Erykah Badu was not nominated here. Hell, where is Estelle or The-Dream or Mariah? So dumb. Anyway.

Remove J.Holiday & Karina and add in Mariah and Estelle's albums. That is a better Contemporary R&B lineup.

I don't even know who Karina is. Does anybody else? Did you know about her only after hearing about her Grammy nominations?

I happen to love the Ne-Yo album. Perhaps you guys should go check out some reviews of the album (which are mostly raving) and you'll see why people like it. These boards seem to not like it, but it has been praised, and I agree with the critics. Love that it was nominated in AOTY!

It's been quite awhile since I last listened to his album. From what I remember I thought the first half of his album was solid but the second half dragged on and bored me.

Funny. I like the second half more.

Dude, never heard of her in my life, which is why I was so shocked so many people voted for her.

I had no idea about this Karina girl either, but apparently big names in the industry did. I checked some of her videos and I have seen footage of her with Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z and Quincy Jones in a video saying "how talented she is". I also read somewhere that her album was highly anticipated and that she had offers from three or four big record labels before signing.

It's easy to "B" labeled the best when you have all the top producers and song writers doing your work for you.

Good looks to whoever mentioned Erykah Badu, she had a good album, I enjoy it more than NE-YO's latest, I dont even know why I bought it. Mary J had a GREAT album with GROWING PAINS, she better be the upset.

AOTD = Kanye West

yeah this is a weak one folks. i dont think any of these are great albums. i would probably vote for jazmine or ne-yo, but both of those are only like half great.

ne-yo will probably win but you can never count our mary j.

Ne-Yo will win for his blah album due to the AOTY nomination. And I've had Karina's album for months now. I bought it when it was reduced price in the developing artists section of BestBuy after hearing and loving "Can't Find the Words." It's a decent enough debut. Nothing groundbreaking, and there's definitely room for growth, but there's potential there. How she managed to get into this category with the competition being what it was is sort of baffling, but good for her regardless.

I listened to some of Karina's cd, she is kind of a mini Alicia Keys. Don't knock until you go listen lol. I think I would have replace Holiday and Karina with Badu, Estelle, Carey, or Brown.

Anyway, Ne-Yo is winning.

Ne-Yo wins this one, obviously. He will also prove yet again that sales don't matter in this category.

I guess Karina is this year's Emily King.

Where does that leave J. Holiday? Didn't he have two top 10 R&B hits from his album?
