And that's just right now. I know that some of these artists don't have that big of chance in GF but I posted this in here since It mixed several artists from several genres.

Spears and Beyonce will only be contenders if they continue to be big commercial successes throughout the year as they currently are at this moment.
U2 are Grammy staples in the General Field.
Bruce Springsteen is the veteran act that NARAS loves to nominate.
Kelly Clarkson: Refer to Britney Spears & Beyonce above. However, Kelly experienced mega success with "Breakaway" and scored 0 General Field nominations. We'll have to wait and see how her new album has turned out.
Taylor Swift isn't guaranteed an Album of the Year nod because she has the highest selling album at the moment. Where was Alicia Keys in this years AOTY lineup then?
This thread's been funny to read so far...but let me throw Lily Allen's name to the mix...her current UK # 1 single if released in the USA should be a contender...the lyrics to "The Fear" are really well-written and oh so true!
I like Alison Krauss and I think she has the voice of an angel but when I remember that Shania Twain lost to her both at the 1996 grammy awards and cma awards, I kind of dislike her a little...

Kanye has a Rap album coming out later on in the year, so he will have two albums eligible. I'm willing to bet the Rap album gets more love. But Eminem is coming out, and if his album is a success, then he might have a chance at getting a nomination as well.

I would also LOVE to see Britney Get some General Field Love, but her being Shut-out for TOXIC In Record of the Year that one year makes me think its not really going to happen.

That's very true. They also snubbed "Baby One More Time" in Record of the year. But I think those years were very competitive.
The big thing that Britney has on her side this time around is she's riding the "Comeback" train and has been dishing out hit after hit. It all depends on how much love the Blue Ribbon Panel wants to give her. They love a big comeback and the past proves that. She'll most definitely get nominations in the Pop and Dance Fields.

Very true. I'd love to see both her and David Cook on the list next year.
Have there been any other noteworthy New Artists yet?
I doubt Melinda Doolittle gets any love. I didn't even know she had a CD coming out. Buy hey, weird things do happen in the nomination process. Who would have thought Adele would even be nominated for Best New Artist this year and actually win it.

Shakira has recorded with Pharrell Williams and Wyclef Jean for her next album. The artist has also tracked a duet with Calle 13 and may collaborate with Algerian artist Khaled and Madonna.
She has the sales, the critic love, the record breaking 7 weeks on the Billboard 200, and also note she is talented and she (along with those no talent hacks Miley and the JoBros) did bring in the audience. Is she ready for something this big? Only time will tell.
-U2 (No Line on the Horizon)
Name recognition. Do we REALLY need a reason why for this one?
-Bruce Springsteen (Working on a Dream)
See above. Or they could just ignore him again, but he's The Boss!
-AC/DC (Black Ice)
Here they are, everyone! Our token veteran, "we-haven't-won-this-award-and-we've-been-singing-for-a-long-time-now" nominee. Plus they have the reviews to back them up (Raising Sand anyone?)
