^ OH YES! I forgot about that year when U2 stole Mariah's AOTY award. That might hurt them since they have two AOTY wins, but they're U2! NARAS likes to have an orgasm over them everytime they come out with an alubm.

That's very true. They also snubbed "Baby One More Time" in Record of the year. But I think those years were very competitive.
The big thing that Britney has on her side this time around is she's riding the "Comeback" train and has been dishing out hit after hit. It all depends on how much love the Blue Ribbon Panel wants to give her. They love a big comeback and the past proves that. She'll most definitely get nominations in the Pop and Dance Fields.
I agree. "Circus" is just a fantastic song, and the album is great. She probably won't get a ROTY nod, basically her only shot to ever be recognized in the General Fields, but she could probably end up reaping 3 nominations no sweat (pop album, female pop vocal and dance recording) with her current comeback success.
^ Oh gosh, what a boring AOTY and ROTY lineup that would be LOL. I think that if the entire Academy decided the General Field nominees like the rest of the nominations it would be very possible, but I can't imagine the Blue Ribbon panel going for 4 rock acts out of 5 nominees.
I honestly think out of those, AC/DC and maybe Bruce have the best shots. Alison only got GF love because her profile was raised and she had big crossover success with Robert Plant, and I'm thinking they may not feel the need to include U2 in BOTH categories since they did have such a big year a few times ago. I'd say they'll only be in ROTY (and win since they lost that to Green Day).
Speaking of Green Day, I think their album will have to measure up to American Idiot to make it back into AOTY. Record could happen though if they have a big single.
I think next year the vets Academy will they feel like they need to get around to however are Bruce and AC/DC. U2 has gotten their due, and does anyone even like their new single anyway? LOL

I'm not sure about the technicalities here but is "Single Ladies" still eligible this year since it was already submitted for Grammy contention along with "If I Were A Boy" for the Grammys that just past? Is there a past precedence where a song was submitted two times in consecutive years?

It missed the Deadline so they probably didn't take it for consideration, they might of submitted it but they could of ignored it because of the deadline, so this year it could be eligeble. They would of given her anomination this year for "Single Ladies" instead of "Me Myself and I"

That makes no sense. Why would the NARAS ignore it when it was officially printed on the Grammy nomination ballot? If they ignored it they would have excluded it from the ballot.

^^ oh my. about Single Ladies... was the record released on or before September 30, 2008? because if it is, then it is not eligible anymore.
i think the release date of the record and albums are the identifying factors whether it is eligible for the Grammy awards. this year the eligibility is October 1, 2008 up to September 30, 2009.
so i don't know about "missing the deadline" you're talking about...

I think once a song is submitted, whether it was eligible or ineligible, it cannot be submitted again or it's no longer eligible.
I might have to check my sources, but I'm sure there are a few technicalities there.
Yeah, can you check in with your sources. I'm pretty sure it will be ineligible.
Somehow Beyonce scammed her way into having her two songs submitted onto the Official Grammy ballot even though it was blatantly obvious the songs were released after the cut off date September 30th, 2008. It's definitely gonna backfire on her now since "Single Ladies" was a massive hit for her.
I don't think the same exact song has ever been submitted on two Grammy ballots in consecutive years. She got nominated this year for "Me, Myself & I", but if I'm not mistaken it was for a live version or something?
Anyways, with all the technicalities that are involved in the nomination process. I think Beyonce's "Single Ladies" is ineligible, as well as her single "If I Were A Boy".

I remember when Keith Urban lost Country male for "you'll Think of me" and the following year he won in the same category for that song, it could have been a live version or something i guess, i still think allowing them to submit live versions is ridiculous.

I totally agree, I think it makes no sense at all, and it's so irritating when a live song that is nominated ends up with a win (Maroon 5 and this year with Daft Punk!) Unless it's a live recording of NEW material, I don't agree with it.
