It's simple from 2000-2008 rank which songs you thought were the best to the worst from each year. Plus, I'll color in the winner that year in red so that we all know who won. I'll start!

2000 - All 5 were great songs, very good list of nominees that year.
1. "Smooth" by Santana feat. Rob Thomas
2. "No Scrubs" by TLC
3. "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin
4. "Believe" by Cher
5. "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys

2001 - The first 4 are amazing songs while "Music" was just awful IDK how that got in...
1. "Beautiful Day" by U2
2. "I Try" by Macy Gray
3. "Bye Bye Bye" by NSync
4. "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child
5. "Music" by Madonna

2002 - The first 3 are great songs. I like U2 and all, but did they really needed to win a second time?
1. "Video" by India.Arie
2. "Drops of Jupiter" by Train
3. "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys
4. "Walk On" by U2
5. "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast

2003 - WOW! What a really, really good batch of nominees. Definitely the best of the decade. '03 was a strong year so I'm cool with any of them winning.
1. "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton
2. "Without Me" by Eminem
3. "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones
4. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback
5. "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly Rowland

2004 - The first 4 are tough to choose from, but really now NARAS "Clocks" for ROTY???
1. "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce feat. Jay-Z
2. "Where Is The Love?" by The Black Eyed Peas feat. Justin Timberlake
3. "Hey Ya!" by OutKast
4. "Lose Yourself" by Eminem
5. "Clocks" by Coldplay

2005 - Another good batch of nominees. Tough to choose from the first 3, if I was a voter, and it was hard to rank them.
1. "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys
2. "American Idiot" by Green Day
3. "Here We Go Again" by Ray Charles and Norah Jones
4. "Yeah!" by Usher feat. Lil' John and Ludacris
5. "Let's Get It Started" by The Black Eyed Peas

2006 - Another good year with good nominees. Idk why people were so upset over Mariah losing Green Day had the better song.
1. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day
2. "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey
3. "Gold Digger" by Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx
4. "Feel Good Inc." by The Gorillaz feat. De La Soul
5. "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani

2007 - '07 was another fantastic year! If I was a voter I would've had a hard time voting in this category.
1. "Not Ready to Make Nice" by The Dixie Chicks
2. "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
3. "Put Your Records On" by Corrine Bailey Rae
4. "Be Without You" by Mary J. Blige
5. "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt

2008 - This was seriously no competition Amy had it the bag. The first 3 are great songs, the last two are ok but not so special.
1. "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse
2. "Umbrella" by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z
3. "What Goes Around...Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake
4. "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce
5. "The Pretender" by The Foo Fighters

2000
1. "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys (One of the great pop songs of our time. Sad it didn't win ANY awards.)

4. "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce feat. Jay-Z

2000
1. Santana and Rob Thomas, "Smooth"
2. TLC, "No Scrubs"
3. Backstreet Boys, "I Want it That Way"
4. Cher, "Believe"
5. Ricky Martin, "Livin' La Vida Loca"
Analysis: A bad list of songs, saved only by Santana and the decent song by TLC ("Unpretty" was much better, IMO).
My Pick: Santana and Rob Thomas, "Smooth"

2001
1. U2, "Beautiful Day"
2. Macy Gray, "I Try"
3. Destiny's Child, "Say My Name"
4. N Sync, "Bye Bye Bye"
5. Madonna, "Music"
Analysis: I love the songs by U2 and Macy Gray, and like it or not, "Say My Name" helped change the face of R&B and girl groups.
My Pick: U2, "Beautiful Day"

2002
1. India Arie, "Video"
2. Alicia Keys, "Fallin"
3. Outkast, "Ms. Jackson"
4. Train, "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)"
5. U2, "Walk On"
Analysis: One of the best line-ups the Grammys have had in this category. I picked "Video" but not by much.
My Pick: John Mayer, "No Such Thing" (it was eligible this year but not submitted)

2003
1. Norah Jones, "Don't Know Why"
2. Vanessa Carlton, "A Thousand Miles"
3. Eminem, "Without Me"
4. Nelly and Kelly Rowland, "Dilemma"
5. Nickelback, "How You Remind Me"
Analysis: A TERRIBLE line-up. I still consider Nickelback one of the worst bands making music today. "Don't Know Why" deserved this award, though "A Thousand Miles" was a fairly decent pop song.
My Pick: Norah Jones, "Don't Know Why"

2004
1. Coldplay, "Clocks"
2. Outkast, "Hey Ya!"
3. Beyonce and Jay-Z, "Crazy In Love"
4. Eminem, "Lose Yourself"
5. Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake, "Where Is the Love?"
Analysis: Way too much Hip-Hop but still a good lineup.
My Pick: Coldplay, "The Scientist" (one of their best songs)

2005
1. Green Day, "American Idiot"
2. Black Eyed Peas, "Let's Get Retarded"
3. Ray Charles and Norah Jones, "Here We Go Again"
4. Usher, et al, "Yeah!"
5. Los Lonely Boys, "Heaven"
Analysis: A bad year for music all around, so it isn't surprising this is the only lineup they could come up with. "American Idiot" was a good song, but it came out and peaked to really make an impression with voters, I feel.
My Pick: Ryan Adams, "Come Pick Me Up" (I think this is the correct year)

2006
1. Green Day, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"
2. Kanye West, "Gold Digger"
3. Gorillaz, "Feel Good Inc."
4. Mariah Carey, "We Belong Together"
5. Gwen Stefani, "Hollaback Girl"
Analysis: Good lineup, Stefani's song wasn't the best but was catchy. I would have had a hard time choosing between these top two, were I a voter.
My pick: Green Day, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"

2007
1. Gnarls Barkley, "Crazy"
2. Dixie Chicks, "Not Ready to Make Nice"
3. James Blunt, "You're Beautiful"
4. Corrine Bailey Rae, "Put Your Records On"
5. Mary J. Blige, "Be Without You"
Analysis: Good lineup- Gnarls Barkley deserved this one but I will settle for the Dixie Chicks.
My Pick: Imogen Heap, "Hide and Seek"

2008
1. Amy Winehouse, "Rehab"
2. Rihanna and Jay-Z, "Umbrella"
3. Foo Fighters, "The Pretender"
4. Justin Timberlake, "What Goes Around..."
5. Beyonce, "Irreplaceable"
Analysis: There were many better songs out there- only the top two deserved to be near this slate, and Winehouse had her name on the trophy months before the ceremony.
My Pick: Feist, "1234"

So far this year...
My Pick: M.I.A., "Paper Planes"

2000

1. U2, "Beautiful Day"
2. Madonna, "Music"
3. Macy Gray, "I Try"
4. Destiny's Child, "Say My Name"
5. N*Sync, "Bye, Bye, Bye"

Comments: Not the best year for the category. U2's song towered above the rest of the competition with "Beautiful Day", but I would have been pleased with Madonna winning too (maybe Macy Gray as well). I don’t think the other two songs have aged that well considering what choices have come afterwards.

2001

1. India.Arie, "Video"
2. Outkast, "Ms. Jackson"
3. Alicia Keys, "Fallin'"
4. Train, "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)"
5. U2, "Walk On"

Comments: I loved "Video" – I thought that it was the best debut song of that year with empowering delivery and memorable lyrics. I only have "Fallin'" as high as I do b/c of its popularity. I'd have it last in SOTY b/c of its trite lyrics. Love “Ms. Jackson”, but I’ll place Outkast higher later on. Train’s song received a lot of flak at the time, but I liked it well enough. I remember not liking at all that U2 received a consecutive ROTY win for "Walk On", and I still don't.

2002

1. Norah Jones, "Don't Know Why"
2. Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland, "Dilemma"
3. Vanessa Carlton, "A Thousand Miles"
4. Nickelback, "How You Remind Me"
5. Eminem, "Without Me"

Comments: This was a bad year for this category, which was compounded by snubbing Bruce Springsteen for "The Rising". I guess I'd pick Norah Jones here -- not too thrilled about the song, and on another day, I could easily pick "Dilemma" instead. I don't care too much about the rest of the field. 3–5 are interchangeable with Vanessa Carlton fairly slightly better than the others.

2003

1. Outkast, "Hey Ya!"
2. Coldplay, "Clocks"
3. Eminem, "Lose Yourself"
4. Beyoncé feauring Jay-Z, "Crazy in Love"
5. The Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake, "Where Is the Love?"

Comments: A stellar group of nominees and an about face from the year before. A lot was made over the classic "urban split vote" leading the way for Coldplay to win, but "Clocks" was one of the savviest choices voters have ever made in this category. My heart was with "Hey Ya!" all that year and still is, but I won't bemoan Coldplay their win here. I thought that Eminem hit a milestone with "Lose Yourself", a song that I could finally get onboard with from him. I've grown to like "Crazy in Love" much more than I did back then. Even "Where Is the Love?" is solid, if not spectacular. Good year for the category. Best overall of the decade so far.

2004

1. Green Day, "American Idiot"
2. Los Lonely Boys, "Heaven"
3. Ray Charles & Norah Jones, "Here We Go Again"
4. The Black Eyed Peas, "Let's Get It Started"
5. Usher featuring Lil' Jon & Ludacris, "Yeah!"

Comments: This year was Green Day’s for "American Idiot" and nothing else (unless Kanye West had made it in here for something, preferably "Jesus Walks"). The Ray Charles anointing came far too late in his career for a very subpar and mediocre album and song effort. I was surprised about Los Lonely Boys making it in for "Heaven". "Let's Get It Started" and "Yeah!" came off as trivial to me.

2005

1. Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx, "Gold Digger"
2. Green Day, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"
3. Gwen Stefani, "Hollaback Girl"
4. Mariah Carey, "We Belong Together"
5. Gorillaz featuring De La Soul, "Feel Good Inc."

Comments: “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” is a solid song, but if “American Idiot” had won the year before, I would have picked Kanye to win for “Gold Digger”. As it stands, I don’t mind “BOBD” as a ROTY year, makeup win or not. I still love “Hollaback Girl”, and I’m glad it made the field. “We Belong Together” has grown on me a tad, but other tracks were better here. Good for Gorillaz somehow making it in for “Feel Good Inc.”, but it wouldn’t have quite felt substantial enough as a ROTY winner.

2006

1. Gnarls Barkley, "Crazy"
2. James Blunt, "You're Beautiful"
3. The Dixie Chicks, "Not Ready to Make Nice"
4. Corinne Bailey Rae, "Put Your Records On"
5. Mary J. Blige, "Be Without You"

Comments: "Crazy" was the standout track in this field -- I would have loved to see this one as the first "urban" nominee to win this category if Outkast, Kanye, or Emimen couldn’t pull it off. I loved "You're Beautiful" then and I still do now. It's great that The Dixie Chicks were embraced the way that they were, but ROTY was excessive when it barely charted. Love Corinne Bailey Rae, but this song felt like more of a songwriter's achievement. Mary J. Blige has had far stronger tracks in the past that should have made this category before this one did.

2007

1. Amy Winehouse, "Rehab"
2. Rihanna featuring Jay-Z, "Umbrella"
3. Beyoncé, "Irreplaceable"
4. The Foo Fighters, "The Pretender"
5. Justin Timberlake, "What Goes Around . . . Comes Around"

Comments: As much as I was rooting for "Umbrella" to win the entire time, I was thrilled that voters actually picked Amy Winehouse for "Rehab". I thought that her troubles would catch up to her at some point, but I'm glad that voters recognized the work above all else with her. "Umbrella" was so ubiquitous and caught on with the cultural mainstream in such a strong way, I wouldn't have minded that winning at all. "Irreplaceable" is a great kiss-off, f--- you song, so good going there for picking it. "The Pretender" is solid -- kinda bizarre that this is the song that gets The Foo Fighters into ROTY, but not "Big Me", "Everlong", "My Hero", “Learn to Fly”, etc. "What Goes Around" was a meh choice -- there was better to choose from in the general field and off of his album if they had to have him in the category.

LOL it's sounds like you still can't get over the whole 2006 Grammy Awards fiasco. Well we all know Mariah had the best song and album of 2005, but let's be real here "We Belong Together" was a great song, but not really deserving of the ROTY award. They made the right choice giving it Green Day, and not becuase it was a make-up award I honestly thought BoBD was a better song. U2 is a great band and I respect them for their work, but I honestly believe the only General Field award they deserved was SOTY while Mariah should've won the AOTY award. That way everybody would've been happy that night.

2003 - WOW! What a really, really good batch of nominees. Definitely the best of the decade. '03 was a strong year so I'm cool with any of them winning.
1. "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton
2. "Without Me" by Eminem
3. "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones
4. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback
5. "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly Rowland

Wow are you serious Nickleback is terrible as is the Nelly song

Im sorry "We Belong Together" ****s all over
"Boulevard Of Broken Dreams".The lyrics, the melody, and the song was just INCREDIBLE.If there was one Grammy she deserved it was that one.Mariah was and will always be robbed in ROTY.

LOL it's ok you're entitled to your own opinion I just wished that that's how it should've turned out to be instead of Mariah being publicly snubbed that night. It was just disrespectful...

And yes I'm serious not only was 2003 the best but so were 2007, 2006, 2004, and 2001.

2000
1. "Smooth" - Santana
2. "No Scrubs" - TLC
3, 4, 5. The rest are interchangeable in quality to me

The voters got it right here. I love "No Scrubs" a lot but it would have been an odd winner.

2001
1. "Beautiful Day" - U2
2. "I Try" - Macy Gray
3. "Say My Name" - Destinys Child
4. "Music" - Madonna
5. "Bye Bye Bye" - NSYNC

Voters got it right but I wouldn't have mind if "I Try" won as well. The other 3 songs are just OK, I never got into "Music" for some reason.

2002
1. "Video" - India Arie
2. "Ms Jackson" - Outkast
3. "Walk On" - U2
4. "Fallin" - Alicia Keys
5. "Drops of Jupiter" - Train

All are solid nominees but only the first 3 make sense as winners. I was very dissapointed that "Video" didn't win as it is such a strong record.

2003
1. "A Thousand Miles" - Vanessa Carlton
2. "Don't Know Why" - Norah Jones
3, 4 ,5 The rest are all interchageable to me,

Horrible set of nominees. I only really like the first two.

2004
1. "Hey Ya" - Outkast
2. "Lose Yourself" - Eminem
3. "Where is the Love" - Black Eyed Peas
4. "Clocks" - Coldplay
5. "Crazy In Love" - Beyonce & JayZ

Incredible set of nominees here. Every record would have been a worthy winner.

2005
1. "Let's Get It Started" - Black Eyed Peas
2. "American Idiot" Green Day
3, 4, 5 are interchangeable to me

This year's winner shouldn't have even been nominated.

2006
1. "Gold Digger" - Kanye West
2. "We Belong Together" - Mariah Carey
3. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" - Green Day
4. "Holla Back Girl" - Gwen Stefani
5. "Feel Good" - Gorillaz

The first three all make worthy winners so I have no real problem with Green Day winner though "Gold Digger" is what I would have voted for if I were a member.

2007
1. "Crazy" - Gnarles Barkley
2. "Not Ready To Make Nice" - Dixie Chicks
3. "Put Your Records On" - Corrine Bailey Ray
4, 5 - These two are interchangeable

I get why the Dixie Chicks won, but I think 20 years from now, "Crazy" will stand the test of time better.

2008
1. "Rehab" - Amy Winehouse
2. "Umbrella" - Rihanna
3. "Irreplaceable" - Beyonce
4. "The Pretender" - Foo Fighters
5. "What Goes Around" - Justin Timberlake

"Umbrella" was such a great record and it had such a huge cultural impact though I would have voted for "Rehab" because I love those types of throwback records. Either of the two are worty records, the rest not so much.

2000 -
1. "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys (As much as I like "Smooth", I really felt this was a great pop song and it would've been nice to see the love being spread around instead of just Santana winning EVERYTHING. lol)
2. "Smooth" by Santana feat. Rob Thomas (That being said, I'm still happy for Santana winning. I think he was a worthy winner and he is legendary.)
3. "No Scrubs" by TLC
4. "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin
5. "Believe" by Cher

- I've already made a comment regarding the first two, but the rest I felt should be in their place because that is my opinion. I loved all the tracks nominated, but that is how I feel the rankings should be.

2001 -
1. "Beautiful Day" by U2 (I thought they deserved their win here.)
2. "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child (Great song, but I rank it #2.)
3. "Bye Bye Bye" by NSync (Another great pop song, but it deserves #3 slot.)
4. "I Try" by Macy Gray
5. "Music" by Madonna

-I pretty much rank them how I felt should've went down. I am happy with U2's win here. "I Try" was a good song, but not a great winner. Love Madonna, but "Music" wasn't anything special.

2002 -
1. "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast (I would've loved to see Outkast win honestly.)
2. "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys ("Fallin'" would'vwe been a deserving winner as well.)
3. "Drops of Jupiter" by Train
4. "Walk On" by U2
5. "Video" by India.Arie

-U2 did not deserve to win two years in a row, but whatever. I like India.Arie, but I felt the other artists deserved a win over her, sorry. That is just my opinion.

2003 -
1. "Without Me" by Eminem (Honestly, I wasn't a big fan of this song, BUT, whatever, Eminem got screwed on more than one occasion, so he deserved a win.)
2. "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones (That being said, I'm happy for Norah Jones winning.)
3. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback
4. "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton
5. "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly Rowland

-Honestly, this wasn't a strong lineup. Good for Norah winning, but I wouldn't have mind if either Em, Nelly, or Vanessa ended up winning.)

2004 -
1. "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce feat. Jay-Z (I feel either "Lose Yourself" is interchangeable with "Crazy in Love". Honestly, this is by far the strongest year in ROTY in the past decade. Any one of them winning would do with for me, well, either 1,2 or 3 would make great winners. Obviously Coldplay won, but I felt it should have won over BEP and Outkast (as big a song as it was that year.)
2. "Lose Yourself" by Eminem
3. "Clocks" by Coldplay
4. "Hey Ya!" by OutKast
5. "Where Is The Love?" by The Black Eyed Peas feat. Justin Timberlake

-I loved the nominees this year. 50 Cent deserved a spot her as well IMO, but oh well. It was still a great year. I thought either Beyonce or Em should have won, but w/e, its cool Coldplay won.

2005 -
1. "American Idiot" by Green Day (Grenn Day should've won. Heck Usher should've won. Either of the two should have REALLY won and I stick with it.)
2. "Yeah!" by Usher feat. Lil' John and Ludacris (interchangeable^^^)
3. "Let's Get It Started" by The Black Eyed Peas
4. "Here We Go Again" by Ray Charles and Norah Jones
5. "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys

-This wasn't a great year for the nominees, but it should NOT have been "Here We Go Again", I'm sorry, it did not represent the year as the ROTY. Oh well. Thats NARAs for you. But "Heaven" would've been equally as bad. lol Maybe even worse. Sorry, it was a godo song, but no deserving nominee.

2006 -
1. "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey (I think she deserved to win.)
2. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day (They were great choices to win. So, not problems here. But Mariah would've been good too.)
3. "Gold Digger" by Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx (Love "Gold Digger", but not sure if it would've been a good winner. But, he needed to get love one way or another.)
4. "Feel Good Inc." by The Gorillaz feat. De La Soul
5. "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani

-That is my ranking. I actually like this years' nominees A LOT! Strong year. Happy for Green Day.

2007 -
1. "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
2. "Not Ready to Make Nice" by The Dixie Chicks
3. "Be Without You" by Mary J. Blige (Interchangeable with Blunt's "You're Beautiful". Great song, but I think Gnarls Barkley should've won. If not them, then happy Dixie Chicks won.)
4. "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt (Was a good nominee, but not a deserving winner IMO.)
5. "Put Your Records On" by Corrine Bailey Rae

-That is my lineup. "Crazy" should've won, but happy Dixie Chicks did anyway.

2008 -
1. "Umbrella" by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z (Should have been the winner.)
2. "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse (Its cool she won, but should've been Rihanna f/Jay-Z.)
3. "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce (She deserved a nod, possibly a win.)
4. "What Goes Around...Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake
5. "The Pretender" by The Foo Fighters

-I was pleasantly surprised by Foo's nomination, but I thought another song could've occupied that space. Sorry. Foo's had better tracks in the past, its too bad they only got recognized for "The Pretender" (as great a track it is.) Anyway, I thought the winner SHOULD HAVE been "Umbrella", it was the best ROTY IMO. If not "Umbrella", then I am o.k. with Amy winning for "Rehab". After that Beyonce, then Justin. Lastly Foo Fighters.

FYC: The Dark Knight in every possible category! haha
