I know. When I was typing out the list of contenders, I just kept shaking my head. The list of contenders thus far in almost every category are turgid.

I saw online earlier today that Seal's album has sold over 400,000 copies thus far...he's doing better than some of the other artists out there right now...
Teena Marie's new album, Conga Square, comes out June 9.
Oh man I'm just hearing "Can't Last A Day" (f/Faith Evans) for the first time. It's excellent. Should Teena and Faith go R&B Duo/Group or Traditional R&B Vocal? Teena Marie is way overdue to win a Grammy. It's an outrage she doesn't have one. This chick has been around since the late '70s and is still putting out quality R&B albums unlike many of the other oldheads from her time (Lionel Richie I'm looking at you).

I agree as well! I love me some Teena. I saw her last year in Chicago she was excellent. It probably would be better for her to submit that in Traditional to have a better chance of winning.

Contemporary R&B Album - Intuition, Epiphany, I Am...Sasha Fierce, A Different Me, Ryan Leslie
**Jamie Foxx cd is definetely contemporary, no way it could be R&B. I think Chrisette will be submitted here as well. I see Keri and Dream being snubbed for Ryan and Chrisette.
Female Vocal: "?" Beyonce, You Complete Me, Epiphany, Lions, Tigers & Bears, From My Heart To Yours
Male Vocal: Pretty Wings, SoBeautiful, Mad, Everybody Knows, "?" Prince
Best R&B Song: Pretty Wings, Blame It, Epiphany, You Complete Me, Mad

Also, I really think that Intuition and Epiphany should be put in Contemporary. The latter can probably slide by and enter the R&B Album category, but there's no way that Jamie Foxx's album can pass for anything else but Contemporary. The only reason his debut [unfairly] went into R&B Album was because his and Mary's label went running scared from Beyonce. Both of them should've gone Contemporary that year (in which case Mary should've & would've won. I'm just glad she won Best R&B Album anyway.)

I keep reading things like this and I really don't understand it. How did you draw this conclusion? Is there any proof that Jamie Foxx and Mary went to Best R&B Album just to avoid Beyonce?
I do think Mary's and Jamie's albums had a little bit of contemporary R&B on them, but some may even argue that their albums deserved to be in R&B Album. Most of the tracks on Unpredictable are typical sappy slow jams that would only make buzz on R&B radio. Most of the songs on The Breakthrough were traditional R&B (i.e "This Ain't Really Love," "I Found My Everything," "Father in You," "No One Will Do"). So, their inclusions in R&B Album is as acceptable as their latest albums going Contemporary R&B. Growing Pains and Intuition are much more upbeat followups, so Contemporary R&B is/was great submissions for them.
I never understood why some folks on here thought Beyonce was the sole reason for Mary's and Jamie's labels submitting their work to another category. At that time, Jamie and Mary were huge and had a lot of buzz. Beyonce didn't get buzz until "Irreplaceable" was released and that was after the submissions and nominations. I never understood that.
