I changed some contenders. Added Whitney & Akon on to R&B Duo or Group. I also feel that Whitney's label might submit "A Song for You" in the Traditional R&B category.

I love Criss808 predictions. They make perfect sense and reflect the consciousness of R&B radio. And them winners seem like the logical chioce. But then again some strange things happen like last year when Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson won in the categories that should have been reversed (JHud winning R&B vocal and Alicia winning R&B album). I doubt we'll see a situation like that. The grammys are setting up for a Whitney Houston win in album. It's been planned since Whitney passed out the R&B Album Grammy out last year. I mean could they be less obvious? I wish I had some juice on how the label heads are feeling for the best of the year because they do have a say. But many professionals and critics are feeling Maxwell this year. I mean Ne-Yo didn't have half of this acclaim last year (though he had chart power) and made it to Album of the Year so I wouldn't expect less for Maxwell. And Whitney being able to be nominated in R&B album helps Chrisette Michele's chances in R&B vocal. I can't fully explain why but it does. And don't neglect the power of the label to back up one of their own. In the R&B field Arista is huge. Def-Jam is huge. Motown doesn't have as much power but their block is still important. So if someone could post on their predictions the labels as well we might get a better sense of how the categories may run.

I still pick Maxwell to win R&B Album after hearing everything that will be included up to the deadline. I would not be mad if they gave it to Whitney. Also, Ledisi should be nominated. I would nominate in this order of my favorite.

Best R&B Album
1. Maxwell "Blacksummer'snight"
2. Ledisi "Turn Me Loose"
3. Whitney Houston "I Look To You"
4. Musiq Soulchild "Onmyradio"
5. Chrisette Michele "Epiphany"

Regardless of quality, though, we have to see how well all those albums does critically and/or commercially. Raphael Saadiq and Al Green had two critically acclaimed albums, while Jennifer Hudson had so so reviews. Guess who came out on top?

We might see the same thing happen to Whitney, except Whitney is receiving praise (thus far) for this album. If everything works in her favor, then she could easily win Best R&B Album, regardless of Maxwell or any of those artists having better albums. But in this case, Whitney, Maxwell and a couple of other artists would be deserving, whereas Jennifer Hudson won over 4 other nominees with way better albums.

I wouldn't mind Chrisette Michele winning Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, but is she really a force against Whitney and Beyonce? I doubt it.

Oh well I also must say. And I'm not starting any rumors but certain individuals might recieve the "backlash", and I'm sorry to say that Beyonce may suffer in nominations because of it. The "backlash" being based on the premise that somebody already won a ton of grammys and they are likely to be nominated anyway therefore I or you list somebody else (from yours or my record label) to give them a chance.

I honestly feel that's what happened with Alicia Keys in certain categories last year. Had she not been eligible and recieved those wins for "No One", I believe she would have gotten more than the two nominations she got the following year.

Even though Beyonce's wins have been more or less spaced out, she still won 5 Grammys in one night. That'll be in the memory of some and plus I'm getting a whispered sense of "meh" about this album especially compared to B'Day (the true Sasha Fierce album) and Dangerously in Love (which has her best singles). I mean Halo is off da...well it's gorgeous but the other songs have left a lot to be desired...Well Single Ladies is catchy as U know what. But I mean Video Phone?...come on. Somebody should have said "Beyonce...gurl, that's not you." I don't see where she could possibly reach outside of R&B cont. album in the R&B field. And I'm sorry her win in R&B female vocal was a fluke considering she was up against Teena Marie and Heather Headley. That was a good case of Brand Name Syndrome going on (like when Toni Braxton won over Jill Scott that year). So I don't see it happening again soon (unless she does another song like "Be With You" - LOVE THAT SONG - and it becomes a hit). I mean she has more of a chance to win Pop Female (Halo) at this point than for R&B Female (for Ego or whatever people think she'll get nominated for).

^ Um, okay! LOL

But When Beyonce won for "Dangerously in Love 2" she wasn't up against Teena Marie. She was up against Ashanti, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, and Heather Headley. I don't think Beyonce will win that many awards this year. "Halo" would be a deserving winner in Best Pop Female, but Kelly, Pink and GaGa are forces there, so who knows. Best Contemporary R&B Album is Beyonce's best chance at a win.

I just don't think Chrisette will win over the likes of Whitney and Beyonce. I think Whitney is the one to watch out for in Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Album. Maxwell is definitely taking Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and I could see "Pretty Wings" winning for Best R&B Song. I mean, the song is a hit on the Hot 100 Airplay. But at this point, Best R&B Album is up in the air. Whitney just made major competition in that category. In the end, it will boil down to Whitney and Maxwell.

Best R&B Group should be interesting. Hopefully, India.Arie and Musiq win that one.

@musicluva123: Totally agree w/ you on R&B Group! But I think "Ifuleave" will be ahead of "Chocolate High" but I hope Chocolate High gets it. Oh and thanks for reminding me who B' was up against.

Yeah I think Alicia and Jennifer should have switched wins but hey, they were both pretty deserving even if Jennifer's album wasn't as strong as Alicia's.

Chrisette is a well respected artist who had a successful album and single. I can definitely see her winning. Beyonce and Whitney will most likely submitt "Halo" and "I Look To You" into the Female Pop Vocal Performance category where they'll duke it out there with Whitney possibly winning. I think it's obvious that Grammy winners hate rewarding artists with both pop and r&b vocal awards.

Huh? "A Song For You" is a pop/dance/international track. Nothing remotely traditional about it.

I might be wrong, but I doubt Arista would submit "I Look to You" to Best Female Pop Vocal Performance when its support has been coming from urban. If it doesn't go Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, then I think it will go Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. If Arista is smart, which I think they are, they would submit "Call You Tonight" to Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and have it as a single during the voting period.

I'm still not sold on Chrisette Michele winning over the likes of Whitney and Beyonce (who will most likely submit "Ego"), but a Michele win would be more than acceptable.

I totally had to change my predictions for Whitney's version of "A Song for You" from Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. After streaming her album that song is so far from being traditional r&b lol.

I feel like Beyonce is going to take "Best Contemporary R&B Album" again. All of the other major competitors (Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, The Dream, Keyshia Cole) have all kinda lost some steam over the summer and Beyonce's VMA performance and wins are definitely getting her back in the spotlight. I feel like Beyonce will contine to pick up steam throughout the rest of the awards season (she'll probably pick up an award or two at the American Music Awards...FINALLY!!!!).

And I feel like the Knowles camp will try to submit "Single Ladies" wherever they can...especially after taking the top award at the VMA's last night. They might try to submit a live performance in the Female R&B Vocal Performance category...maybe Dance Recording...maybe Best Music Video (or whatever they call it...lol)...maybe even Best Live Performance, haha. I wouldn't be surprised if she gained nominations in categories that she has never been nominated in before...lol. And I think that they'll submit "Halo" to the Pop category.
