I don't think she'll release September 1st anyway. I'm thinking the last week of September.
She's working with Major Lazer who produced M.I.A's Paper Planes.
Quote: Your profile as a producer has exploded since you worked on M.I.A’s second album Kala – has it been non-stop since?
Yeah, totally. There’s some real exciting projects on at the moment and it’s great that people’s tastes are changing and that mainstream artists are looking at doing something more creative or edgy that really ties in to what people like Wes and myself and [Santigold’s co-writer] John Hill are doing. It’s cool to be asked to spend a week with artists like Christina Aguilera and for them to be really open and trust us.
So you’ve been collaborating with Christina?
Yeah her and a few other people too, but I won’t say who just in case it’s not happening.
I don't think Christina Aguilera waits too long in between album releases. She is not like some artists who release albums every year. She likes to take her time with her projects.
I see no problem with a September 1, 2009 release date. I highly doubt Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston are going to sell sh*tloads of records. Neither one is as hot as they used to be.
Christina Aguilera is not actually hot commodity at the moment either. All I'm saying is that having all three of their albums released a week apart (Christina and Whitney possibly releasing on the same day) might shake up things, and not necessarily in a good way.
Competition always plays a part in whether an artist's album does well or not. Just ask 50 Cent and Kanye. It either benefits one artist, all artists or none.

I never said Christina Aguilera was hot dear. What I was saying is that Christina is quite capable of competing with both Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston if she chooses to release her album on the same day or around the same time.

LOL! Exactly. Not to mention the fact that neither one of the aforementioned Whitney & Mariah need to do it like that anymore. Check their records. Christina is trying to be in that league. To do it like either one of them have are some long ladders to climb.

At this point, MC and Whitney have the most buzz. Outside of this board, I've heard people talk about their music, not so much Xtina, and that's no shade at all.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I have no doubt based on the people Christina has worked with, and her voice, she's not going deliver. But I surely wouldn't discount women who have eternal fanbases, either.

I agree! I think sometimes people forget what she is capable of. her first week sales are always pretty big.

Agree. I think many people in the public underestimate her and the following she has. She has a Core Fanbase to her that is crazzy loyal. I am Excited to hear this new sound though.
You know I really think this is a make it or break it album for Christina. Back to Basics was a commercial disappointment and once again Christina has waited too long between albums. Christina no longer has that loyal fanbase who'll buy anything she puts out. So she really should be putting out albums every two years. Over the years Christina has lost a lot of fans. And I do mean a lot. Her last album only sold 1.5 million in the U.S. That's kind of pathetic for someone of Christina's stature. Sure, Christina will always have a career but I'm worried that she's peaked too early commercially. But I guess we'll see with this next album. I don't think Christina's "relevancy" can survive two consecutive commercial disappointments.
And please let's not use the excuse that albums aren't selling anymore. True, we don't see many artists selling truckloads of albums anymore, but Eminem, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Nickelback, etc. are currently doing great numbers that would hold up in any sales climate.

You make some valid points. Though I don't agree Christina Aguilera should be releasing albums every two years. I do believe if the material is good, she will sell. I don't expect this new album to sell more than two million copies for obvious reasons.

Apparently, you haven't read much poetry.
I think the real issue is how the words are commonly used. I think most people in everyday use do not refer to night and day as Lightness and Darkness but instead as Light and Dark which could be why Christina has choosen to title the album "Light and Darkness" because many people do not use the word "Lightness" but instead prefer the term "light". but i could be wrong.

i think christina has done fine with her albums her debut album did amazing, stripped did amazing, her spanish album did amazing, even her christmas album went platnuim and back to basics almost went double platnuim and it sold 4.5 million world-wide. ain't no other man was a top 10 hit and won her a grammy and she delievered one of the best grammy performances ever back to basics did good for a non-commercial type album i loved that album.
christina does have a loyal fanbase i know i will buy anything she puts out cause i love her and her voice, even keeps gettin better went to number 7 on billboard that right there says what christina is made of and proves she has loyal fans cause even though keeps gettin better is a catchy song it didn't show off her vocals at all, but chrisitna is the kind of artist that will always sell 350k or more no matter what because she's hella talented and has a loyal core fanbase that waits for a long time for her albums!
this album will be great because she's working with amazing people and with her voice she can't go wrong wait in see people always hating on a talent like christina but this woman has accomplished alot and all of her albums go platnuim or more, this album is gonna be hott, i know it will she's gonna shut all the haters asses up and i can't wait cause i have my eggs ready!

Light and Dark sounds like a hair color or coffee product. And it makes me think of Wilson Phillips' Shadows and Light, which was a better choice of words, but I have no problem with the title.
I love this girl to death but I sincerely hope that she gets a new look for this album, for her sake.
She looks super dated now, and has for the past 3 years. Enough with the weird short bangs and too-blong hair, enough with the cakey eye make-up and most importantly, enough with the red lips!
I understand that she's trying to have a signature look that goes well with the theme of her last album, but she needs to re-energize her image if she's going to want to compete with her very image focused competition : Rihanna, Britney, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga.
If she was going for another sound, something more like Stripped, then I'd understand not focusing too much on her look like Kelly Clarkson for example, but she's going to need to step it up in my opinion.
