But don't look back in anger, I heard you say...
Posted
Weezer releases their 6th album, another self-titled record (dubbed "The Red Album" this time around) on June 17th.

The first single is titled "Pork & Beans," and will be officially released on April 22nd.

A 30 second clip was leaked online, and it is VERY promising. Not at all contrived like previous singles such as Beverly Hills.

Listen to the clip here:

I think this just might be one of the summer's breakout hits... tough to admit because I've really disliked this band's last 3 albums.

You can now hear the full song online now

Definitely a callback to the sounds of their first 2 albums.

Weezer.com notes the album has been pushed back a week to June 24th. Frontpage has the single streaming in full quality.

I'm having a conversation with myself. How about a pity response?

Anyway, Weezer have released their album cover and it's one of the strangest we've seen this year

Im really excited for this, I'm a huge HUGE Make Believe fan....I love that album....and the others too....

hope they can make a decent followup...

and that cover is funny, but I hope it's not the final one because it looks like the worst cover ever....funny, but not a good one...

Tracks from the album have leaked. Many are available on Youtube.

This album sucks. Nothing, except for the single, sounds like Weezer at all.

The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
Everybody Get Dangerous
Dreamin'
Thought I Knew (Brian Bell on lead vocals)
Cold Dark World (Scott Shriner on lead vocals)

I was really disappointed by that. Of course, I was also really disappointed by Make Believe. And Maladroit. Still I will continue to give their stuff a chance. Damn you Weezer!

OMG key, I have the exact same feelings as you about their last few albums. I enjoyed the Green Album (while not a modern classic like their first two, it's still pretty damn good), but both Maladroit and especially Make Believe were pretty horrible. In fact, I've been reluctant to listen to "Pork and Beans", just so I wouldn't be dissapointed.

and i still haven't listened to it. I've listened to these other new leaked ones, via stereogum, and I'm actually pleasently suprised. I suppose Weezer is a full on "rock" band now, having almost completely changed their sound. But I really like the operatic one (no idea what its called) and the other were at least listenable. (I cannot say that about Make Believe at all).

Maybe there's still hope?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muP9eH2p2PI

The "Pork & Beans" video made its premiere on the front page of Youtube, receiving almost 1 million hits in one day.

This video might be a Video of the Year candidate. Why? Because it features nearly every Youtube celebrity imaginable.

(Note: I'd call the idea original, but South Park put these exact same characters together about a month and a half ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwnlRATD3Jk)

Also: Release date has been bumped up three weeks to June 3rd.

I love the video; it's pretty funny. They have a way of making buzzy videos for their lead singles (like "Beverly Hills" in the Playboy mansion).

One of my friends was just pointing out how Pork & Beans, Beverly Hills, Buddy Holly, Hash Pipe & Keep Fishing are all the same video.

The band stands awkwardly in a busy surreal environment:
Buddy Holly (Happy Days)
Hash Pipe (Sumo Wrestling)
Keep Fishin (The Muppet Show)
Beverly Hills (The Playboy Mansion)
Pork & Beans (YouTube)

Personally, I wouldn't say they keep making the same video over & over. But they sure deserve credit for making some of the best videos throughout the past decade.

Anyone pick this up? I almost did yesterday, but I've been so dissapointed with their last few albums.

Thoughts?
