But anyway, how did Kelly Clarkson become such a big threat now (her fans hype her up too much, damn)? However, I think P!nk should take Female Vocal this year for "Sober" or "Please Don't Leave Me".
I am fairly confident that once you've swept the pop category in a given year, anytime you then release material with solid vocals, you are destined to be at least considered a contender.

Swept??? Homegirl only won two awards, damn you acting she won about billion. A previous winners to me don't mean too much, she doesn't strike me to be a favorite. She was completely snub for her last effort now if she was able to manage with the last one a few nominations/wins, okay I understand the threat/favorite that is being thrown around but she didn't. I see her in the same boat as everyone else.
.... Even if you are a million miles away, I can still feel you in my bed, near me, touch me, feel me and even at the bottom of the sea, I can still hear you inside my head, telling me, touch me, feel me, and all the time you were telling me lies

Winning two awards in the Pop category is about as close as you can get to sweeping that category, particularly for a solo artist. "My December" was a disappointment commercially and Kelly was never going to get a nomination for it. However, the new album has given her a #1 single and decent sales. It will be an interesting race, only because there doesn't seem to be a lot of contenders at this point.

And critically, All I Ever Wanted is Kelly's best reviewed album thus far. She'll probably have the label's support this time like when she was nominated/won for Breakaway. Even if she doesn't win, I think she'll be back in the race as a nominee.

I don't think I need to clarify as the posters below me have also chimed in, supporting my assertion that winning 2 pop Grammy's is quite obviously a near sweep of the category. So I think "homegirl" has a great shot.
And again, nobody said she didn't, I just don't understand how she's the big threat or favorite to win. Her two wins were three years ago, I believe. I see every females (that will be nominated) playing in an equal field right now.

How is Kelly's album holding up, though? I haven't heard much about it. Has it reached Gold yet? I think if Gaga sends her album to Pop, then she will be the front-runner.

Yeah, her album has passed the 500K mark and thus is a Gold record.
Despite Kelly Clarkson's two previous wins in the Pop field, I don't think she is a threat. The Pop field is always competitive. We'll have to wait and see what all is released during the eligibility period. Plus, Clarkson has never been much of a favorite.
I think the hype over Kelly's release has died down tremendously. However, the hype over Kelly may skyrocket once she releases "Already Gone". I think she'll definitely be a contender both in Female Pop Vocal & Pop Vocal Album for sure. The albums a pretty good listen.
I can see Kelly Clarkson being ignored this time around. Breakway and her plethora of hits were impossible to ignore back in 2005/6. Her recent effort is not up to par on any level: the quality of her singles are not great, the album isn't really a commercial smash, and there is no buzz. Pop is always hugely competitive, and unless you have a pretty sizeable, noteworthy hit, it is difficult to sneak into Pop Female, and unless you're on fire on the charts/ancient/a critical darling, of which Ms. Clarkson aren't any.
What she has going for her is the shortened eligibility period, and the lack of quality music out. Save these two factors, I don't see her making an splash.

Weren't people saying the same thing about "I Do Not Hook Up?" Posters on this board were saying how Kelly's album was going to blow up once "Hook Up" got released as a single.

1) "Suck" has been and remains a huge hit. 2) All I Ever Wanted has been much better-received by critics than even Breakaway was.

And it has, as it brought her album back into the iTunes Top 10 (currently #9) in the general charts after hanging around in the lower tier of the chart last week. It'll probably show that bit of increase on the Billboard album charts next week. Already Gone can really attract new fans though because it is a bit different from past KC singles, and not to mention it is a really good song (imo). This could help put Kelly back on. And I do think she can be a threat, she's had a great comeback with a #1 single and a #1 album which are still charting well even after two months.

'Suck' was #1 on the Hot 100 for 2 weeks, hasn't left the top ten on Top 40 in over 3 months. 'Idnhu' has only been out 3 weeks, and is doing great so far, #18 on top 40 radio, and this week moved from #42 to #24 on the hot 100. Her cd will start rising again. With 'Hook up' rising fast, and 'Already gone' in the wings, I think we'll see sales for the cd really pick up. Gaga didn't really start selling until Poker face blew up, well, I think 'Hook up' is going to do the same thing for 'AIEW'. She'll be a viable contender by Grammy nomination time.
Blender Magazine on Kelly Clarkson: " The Texas native has one of the great voices in pop music, a powerful and versatile instrument that’s steeped in the rhythm and blues and country music she grew up with in the South. If Mariah Carey’s five-octave voice is the equivalent of an expensively bred poodle, then Clarkson’s is a bloodhound: friendly, earthy, but fierce just the same."
Baltimore Examiner (concert review): "Her sultry voice is absolutely flawless. The tone and range floors you. When she belts out a note, it's precise yet powerful."
"Music is powerful, it's a drug that makes your inhibitions go away and leaves your vulnerabilities exposed" - KC

I agree. However, the haters will never fade away. But that's part of what makes this nasty site so much fun, haha

I have said before that I'm not the biggest fan of "I Do Not Hook Up". It's one of my least favourite tracks off the album along with "My Life Would Suck Without You".
I think we'll have to wait for the release of "Already Gone" and see how it performs as a single and if it helps album sales. Then we can probably peg Kelly as a frontrunner for Pop Vocal album or Female Pop Vocal.
Right now, I still think Britney Spears' "Circus" and Lady GaGa's "The Fame" (if submitted here) are frontrunners in this category. Once again, its been mentioned a lot before, there really isn't a lot of noteworthy albums released during this years eligibility period so the field of competition is quite weak in my opinion. Considering this, I think Kelly can pull off a nomination atleast.
I wouldn't be surprised if some old veteran wins Pop Vocal album this year.
I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are in regards to Britney Spears' chances in Best Pop Vocal Album this year for "Circus"?
