I figured it was "appropriate" I start one for this r & b chick who may very likely have the #1 debut album next week. Her current lead single, "Epiphany (I'm Leaving), written by Ne-Yo, is currently # 18 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs & #10 on Urban Adult Contemporary. Her 2nd single, "Blame It On Me", is a smoky jazz filled room track. Check it out.
I only got half way through it on 1 listen, Im not sure what to say about it, aside from the obvious attempt at giving her more of a radio friendly sound.

It does seem like she went a bit more mainstream this go round. Well, you can't help it Ne-Yo's responsible for some of the writing. LOL
I really love the cd.
And after that we can Ketchup like tomato. We can make love in Italy in the grotto. Fresh off the jet at the met, they screamin' bravo, bravo, bravo.

Off 1 listen, I feel like this isnt really the sound that best compliments her singing ability. CD isnt bad, but I dunno if it's better than her first.
I think Epiphany is a wonderful album. However, I will say that it isn't better than I Am, which I felt was one of the best and most stellar albums of 2007. Here, the goal was obviously to give her a more commercial look and sound, hence Ne-Yo producing the album and writing half of its tracks.
It's not a bad or futile attempt; it just doesn't match the strength of her debut.

Her album is more mainstream this time around. "Epiphany" became her first entry on the Hot 100 last week I believe. She should be able to see some Grammy nominations for this material and deservingly so.
I really think that Epiphany is one of the year's better R&B albums.
I'd nominate her in the following categories:
Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("Epiphany (I'm Leaving)") Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals ("What You Do") Best Contemporary R&B Album (Epiphany)

Oh, yes. It's by far one of the better r & b albums. I have no hesitation to say that when I scan the possible contenders so far this year.
I'd give her those 3, too.
Actually, i'd put "Blame It On Me" in traditional as well.

"On My Own" should be a single.
You must been reading my mind because I was looking for this thread. I finally listen to this album yesterday/this morning. Its nice. I still don't care for the first single but "Blame It On Me", "What Do You", "All I Ever Think About" are gorgeous songs. I really like "Poreclain Doll" too. Her vocal style is like a mixed of Jill Scott and Janet Jackson to me.
.... Even if you are a million miles away, I can still feel you in my bed, near me, touch me, feel me and even at the bottom of the sea, I can still hear you inside my head, telling me, touch me, feel me, and all the time you were telling me lies

I think we listened to it at the same time, cuz I was listening to it as I was in bed after midnight. Im starting to think her album wont stay afloat like her first did.

Same here. I'm thinking the same thing too but if "What Do You" and "All I Ever Think About" are released (in that order), it should stay stable in sales. She has great singles (minus the first single, however, it has helped so complain there) this time around, well ones that caught my ear and not so traditional like her previous songs were.
It was funny someone said Ciara would outsell her in the long run but she is not sliding down the chart like she is.

This could have some life.
@ChrisJames, I think she should just do one more single and end the album promo (that is of course unless the second single keeps her afloat). Most fans of the first album arent too enthused about the sonic direction of "Epiphany", especially a singer with her vocal talent.

I think after "What You Do" that "All I Ever Think About" should be released and then she should end it. I understand what you're saying though, this is different direction from her debut. However, her vocals performance on "Blame It On Me" and "All I Ever Think About" are beautiful, the beginning note on "AIETA" is magical, imo.
Damn, I need to stop changing my name because I'm forgetting it myself. I thought my name was Lawton right now lol I guess not
