We got a first listen at Keri Hilson's (the chick in "Way I Are") debut album, In a Perfect World, on Tuesday, and it seems Timbaland DOES have a ear for talent. Here is a sneak peek of our article, coming this Wednesday. "Before the album was played, Keri told us a few things: On the title: 'The title was very difficult to choose. We had, like, 4 titles in the bag, but then it was down to two. Keri'd Away, which is a play on my name, obviously, but I chose In a Perfect World. It wasn't saying that I'm perfect, because I am definitely not, but I thought it was appropriate for the album.' The sound: 'My sound is a mixture of alot of things... alot of moods. It's definitely R&B, but it's mixed in with techno, pop, soul... It seems like it's all over the place, but it's not. It's different.' Collaborations: 'Well, Tim [Timbaland] obviously. He's overseeing the whole thing. I've also got Nate [Danja], Polow [Da Don], Cornaboyz... Alot of collabos. I've also got Snoop [Dogg] in a song, Justin [Timberlake] on a song... It's like a party.' Then, came the album. We were told this it wasn't fully mixed, but in the process of being fully mixed. 1. "Return The Favour" The tentative first single. An uptempo R&B banger, with a techno-ish feel to it. This'll definitely set the dancefloors running with it's overthetop baseline, and it's suggestive lyrics ('You gave it to me good, I'll give it to you better', 'I wanna hear your voice in my ear, tell me what you wanna do'). A stomper. ;D 2. "Get Me Off (The Bench)" Honestly, we don't know what this song is about. Is it about sex, or is it about Keri having her chance to 'get off the bench' and shine, we will probably never know... (it might be about sex with the way Keri moans and whimpers over it like she's having an orgasm, but when pointed out, she said that's the way nearly all female singers sing nowadays, which contradicts with her earlier plan to set herself aside, so that's why we think it's about sex.) ??? One thing's for sure, though. This mid-tempo bouncer is a song to play in the cars when you're driving with the top down and the wind is in your face. Definitely will attract attention, considering the moa-er the heavy vocals... 3. "Let Me Go" One of three ballads we heard. Really deep and personal, though it sounds like a carbon copy of "What Goes Around...". Justin provides backing vocals here. 'If you aren't ready for love, then let me go. When you're ready enough, just let me know' drawls Keri all over the track. Beautiful." Continued on Wednesday!
Rap-Up.com has learned exclusively that Keri Hilson has selected “Energy” as the first single from her debut album In A Perfect World…, which is slated for a September 23rd release. The song was produced by the Runaways and will be available digitally on May 27th. Check out the single cover above and listen to a snippet below.
Haha...I guess no one really cares for Keri Hilson. I like her new song and I'll wait patiently until it takes off then hopefully we'll have more discussions.
Here's a review of "Energy" by Blender Magazine.
Listen: Timbaland Protégé Breaks Out Posted 5/27/2008 3:29:00 PM by Ryan Dombal Filed under: keri hilson, Songs, Three and a half stars kerihilson.jpgKeri Hilson "Energy"
She sang on "The Way I Are" and danced in a hypnotically hot fashion in Usher's "Love in This Club" video. She's Keri Hilson and, after nine years of writing for megastars like Chris Brown, the *****cat Dolls and Britney, she's ready for her own solo turn. "Energy" is the first single from her delayed LP, In a Perfect World, and it follows the current can't-miss crunk ballad formula. The hit-making recipe essentially takes Lil Jon's classic pop sound and injects it with just the right amount of heavy-duty animal tranquilizers — a languid piano and some of the most massive synths since we've heard since T.I.'s "What You Know" transform "Energy" from a club banger into something much more epic and melodramatic. On it, Hilson is embroiled in a dangerous love — "I don't want us to be the end of me," goes one particularly eloquent, studio-perfect line. While critics drop dozens of positive adjectives in the name of recent writer-producer turned singer Santogold, Hilson is trying for the same trick — but instead of mere blog kudos, she's aiming for the upper reaches of the Billboard charts. If "Energy" is any indication, she should have little trouble making it there.
When is she releasing her album? I want to hear her music. I'm anticipating this. "Energy" is a cool track, but I think she has better material than that. I love her vocals on Chris Brown's "Superhuman".

"In A Perfect World..." comes out September 23rd according to BET. Here's the video that mentions its release date, they were on set of the "Energy" music video and interviewing Keri.
I'm actually having a hard time finding the music video online. I can't view that video on MTV because I don't live in the USA and the video that's posted on YouTube is of horrible video quality and I want to see it in good quality my first view.

Oh yes, I love her vocals on "Superhuman", currently my favorite song.
But anyway, she's one sexy thing and she's a Peach, enough said about that.
.... Even if you are a million miles away, I can still feel you in my bed, near me, touch me, feel me and even at the bottom of the sea, I can still hear you inside my head, telling me, touch me, feel me, and all the time you were telling me lies

So, when is her album dropping? Is she a contender for Best Contemporary R&B Album? I think she'll be nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration ("Hero" with Nas).

I wrote above that it drops September 23rd. Keri says this herself in this interview with BET when they came on set of the "Energy" music video.
Since Best New Artist is considerably weak this year, she may have a chance to sneak in. This is only if she experiences commercial success with her debut album.

On yesterday's 106 and Park, super producer Timbaland put upstart Keri Hilson alongside Beyoncé and Rihanna when it comes to female pop singers that matter right now. Sure, Hilson is on his label and she helped make his song "The Way I Are" such a smash, but the kudos aren't completely outlandish. The 25-year-old has been writing hits for the likes of Britney and Chris Brown for a few years and now she's trying to break out on her own with first single, "Energy."
The song — a slow-moving R&B elegy akin to Usher's recent "Moving Mountains" — is incredible, and the video is nearly as good. In it, Hilson takes to the boxing ring, Girlfight-style, to bring the song's relationship battles to life. There are a couple Keri's on show here: locker room Keri (gravity-defying dress, sweaty, wet hair), glam Keri (well-placed highlights, shimmering top), speed bag Keri (gold chains, hot pants) and fight night Keri (WWF-esque belt, salon-ready hair). Some of these Keri's are implausible but all are ridiculously sexy. And in amazing shape. And impassioned. We have no doubt she could kick our asses.
