From The Singersroom Blog:

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is prepping her sophomore release and according to music insiders, a song titled "Battlefield" will lead off the disc.

The mid-tempo R&B track was written by Grammy nominated producer/songwriter and One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder, whose long list of accolades includes hits for Ashanti, LeToya Luckett, Timbaland, Jennifer Hudson and Rihanna.

Jordin is set to perform "Battlefield" during the Top 3 results show on American Idol.

A few months ago Sparks updated fans via her YouTube profile, stating that they can look forward to seeing more “upbeat” dance tunes on her second album, which will sound more like Beyoncé meets Rihanna.

Sparks’ self titled debut album is certified platinum in the U.S. The disc produced hit singles “Tattoo,” “No Air” featuring Chris Brown, and “One Step At A Time.”

A review of the single from Pop Justice:

We had a listen to the new Jordin Sparks comeback single earlier today. Here is what we have to report about the song.

» It is called 'Battlefield'.

» It is written by Ryan Tedder.

» It is sort of mid tempo R&B.

» Its chorus ends with a big cry of "why does love always feel like a BATTLEFIELD! LIKE A BATTLEFIELD! LIKE A BATTLEFIELD! Why does love always feel like a BATTLEFIELD! LIKE A BATTLEFIELD! LIKE A BATTLEFIELD!"

» To start with you think 'this isn't up to much' then by the end of it you think 'this is going to be Number One for precisely 2.5 months'.

» There is a brilliant middle eight where everything falls out and it's just Jordin bellowing "LIKE A BATTLEFIELD! LIKE A BATTLEFIELD!" and then it all crashes back in and THEN it all falls out again AND THEN it all goes back in again and it's all jolly good.

Same. I actually really like Jordin.

One question: Why are they calling it her "comeback" single LOL?

Jordin Sparks is a guilty pleasure of mine. So, I'm looking forward to hearing what she has to offer this time around.

Why is everyone working with Ryan Tedder? Red Face

I wish this was a cover of the Pat Benatar classic. I hope Jordin releases better material this time (even tho "No Air" is pretty damn good). She seems like such a genuine, sweet person. I wish her well.

I have a soft spot for genuinely nice people in the music scene. Jordin is one of these people. Her beautiful demeanor and bright spirit makes me want her to succeed. She also is quite a talented young lady.

I don't know how I feel about more "upbeat" dance tunes from her, or Beyonce meets Rihanna. I don't really see her in that role, but we'll see. It might be good.

Yeah, Jordin Sparks is an interesting case. She's got a lot of potential, but she could also completely fizzle. This album will determine what kind of career she's going to have. I hope she gets better material for this album.

Likely another "Bleeding Love"/"Apologize" midtempo I guess. Still I can't wait to hear it since I like her.

It says Mid-Tempo R&B none of those songs are R&B.

The single has leaked. It's a grower. It's more Kelly Clarkson than Leona. Looking forward to her live performance on AI.

This song pretty much ****s over anything Kelly brought out earlier in the year.

Great song.

Great song.

I'd disagree. The actual production is great, but the lyrics are not as good as the songs from Kelly's album. Nonetheless, I'm digging the track.

I love it. One of the most instantly catchy songs of the year.

I think it will be HUGE at radio.

Damn, all of Ryan Tedder's songs are beginning to mix together,

Like a battlefield,a battlefield,a battlefield
I can see your halo halo halo
Keep bleedin keep keep bleeding love

dunno

But despite that, i like the song.

As I predicted, it sounds like Bleeding Love/Halo/ Already Gone. I still like it though.

This song gets a big fat OK from me.

Doesn't sound too special. I think it will definitly be a hit tho. It's definitly got the "now" sound.

After first listen, I think this will be a hit for Jordin. The track is really catchy and the chorus will stick in your head. Basically its memorable. Decent lead off single. I think it'll do the job.
