I was going to open one but didn't want to step on anyone's toes. Is there interest in having a reaction thread? I'll be at work, but I will definitely be monitoring the noms as they come in.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Cat Fight Alert! | 8:53 a.m. Patrick Healy writes: Wow, the Tony nominators are casting their lot with feuding ladies in the category of Leading Actress in a Play. The two women in “God of Carnage” are almost as vicious as the two women in “Mary Stuart” — though, of course, there’s no beheading in “Carnage.” Of these four deliciously, colorfully, nasty roles, which proved the most memorable?

Wow. No 9 to 5 for Scenic Design? They really didn't care for 9 to 5, did they?!
Just got to work...sipping coffee...waking up...processing these. My first reaction after glancing at these is the nominators had really short memories this year. What a shame.
B level reviews were obviously not enough for 9 to 5.

I am so glad that [title of show] got thrown a bone with a best book nod and that Rock of Ages and especially next to normal got as many nominations as they did. The biggest surprise to me is that only Allison Janney made the Leading Actress in a Musical cut from 9 to 5 (close second: no Tovah Feldshuh, boy is she really overdue now!), but these lineups really say a lot about respect for originality. And both Dolly and Jane are nominated! My biggest upset hope is for Thomas Sadoski and Marin Ireland to win in their categories.

Now on to guessing which songs from musicals will be performed. I hate that 9 to 5 won't be performing. I think they need as many musical numbers on the awards as possible. Make it fun and have people want to sing along and enjoy themselves. The CMA and ACM awards have a TON of performances and always seem to do well. Worth a shot.

I'm thrilled and surprised at David Bologna's nomination for Featured Actor. He stole the show and I'd LOVE to see him win!!! Although I think that Jbarra and Kudisch have a leg up.

Well 9 to 5 might still get to perform, last year they let "A Catered Affair", "The Little Mermaid", and "Young Frankenstein" have a brief segment, even though none of them were nominated for Best Musical. Of course this year "9 to 5" is the only new musical still open that didn't receive a nomination for Best Musical. Personally I hope they don't have them perform and allow for readings from the nominees for Best Play.
I figure Billy Elliot will perform "Electricity", but they might do a medley so all 3 boys can perform. I don't know about Next to Normal b/c all of the songs are so good.
I would love it if Liza Minnelli and Angela Lansbury would perform since they are both nominated.
