Nothin' But a Good Time. Very good opening number. A little crude at times, a little long, but very funny. Drawback is Amy Spanger I don't think is in that song.
Here I Go Again. Act 1 closing number. Features everyone. Easiest to pick. But they did it on Regis and Kelly recently. But it showcases their choreography too.
Don't Stop Believin'. Ending number. You can't help but sing along to the song, no matter where you are lol. Can you imagine Whitesnake or Journey on the Tony awards? I think the lead singer of whichever group should introduce the performance (Coverdale or Perry hahaha)

4 acting nods for "God of Carnage"! Wow. Good for them. I'm happy for both Jeff Daniels and Hope Davis getting some recognition for their work. Rough going there for "9 to 5" and "Equus." Can't wait to see the musical performances on the telecast, especially to see what they do with "Billy Elliot." And Constantine is a Tony nominee now. How about that.
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

I'll be stoked if Journey performs Don't Stop Believin' especially with Arnel at the Lead.

I'm a bit taken aback by all the "33 Variations" love; I really wasn't expecting it to kick out "The American Plan" in Best Play. Glad that Gandolfini and Harden got in for "God of Carnage," though I was also a little surprised by the love that show got, and VERY surprised that Tovah Feldshuh's baity work in "Irena's Vow" was overlooked. (And I KNEW I was making a mistake tacking on the "Waiting for Godot" men to my Lead Actor predix...arrgh.)
Surprised that Megan Hilty didn't make the cut- even with the lukewarm reviews, I wasn't quite prepared for the "9 to 5" cold shouldering in several major categories (Musical, Book, and even Scenic Design).
NO Daniel Breaker? That gets my vote for most unexpected oversight this year.
After the last few precursor nominations, it was to be expected, but I am sad that "The Seagull" and Kristin Scott Thomas didn't get the attention they richly deserved.
And last but not least: it WAS to be expected, but an Angela Lansbury Tony nomination is always cause for celebration.

I agree! I hope with all my heart that she performs at the Tonys. (I know its a long shot for her to host, but wouldn't that be wonderful!) Not to be morbid or anything but there might not be too many more chances for her to perform at the Tonys. I would love for her to perform something like "I'm Still Here" from Follies because I think it would show her outstanding commitment to the Theatre.

Did you not like the show or the hype? I was just wondering. I loved the movie and I love Dolly.

I really disliked the show, and I find the movie rather entertaining. The three leads can't carry the show, and Ben Brantley's NYTImes review really highlights what else is wrong with the show in general.
Anyway, here are my current predictions:
BEST PLAY God of Carnage
BEST MUSICAL Billy Elliot, The Musical
BEST BOOK OF A MUSICAL Next to Normal
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE (MUSIC AND/OR LYRICS) WRITTEN FOR THE THEATRE Next to Normal
BEST REVIVAL OF A PLAY The Norman Conquests
BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL Hair
BEST SPECIAL THEATRICAL EVENT Liza's at The Palace
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A LEADING ACTOR IN A PLAY Geoffrey Rush, Exit the King
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A LEADING ACTRESS IN A PLAY Jane Fonda, 33 Variations
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A LEADING ACTOR IN A MUSICAL David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, and Kiril Kulish ‚ Billy Elliot, The Musical (though I don't think they're a lock--I just don't know who wins if they don't)
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A LEADING ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL Alice Ripley, Next to Normal
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEATURED ACTOR IN A PLAY Roger Robinson, Joe Turner's Come and Gone
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEATURED ACTRESS IN A PLAY Angela Lansbury, Blithe Spirit
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEATURED ACTOR IN A MUSICAL Christopher Sieber, Shrek The Musical
BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEATURED ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL Haydn Gwynne, Billy Elliot, The Musical
BEST SCENIC DESIGN OF A PLAY Dale Ferguson, Exit the King
BEST SCENIC DESIGN OF A MUSICAL Mark Wendland, Next to Normal
BEST COSTUME DESIGN OF A PLAY Dale Ferguson, Exit the King
BEST COSTUME DESIGN OF A MUSICAL Tim Hatley, Shrek The Musical
BEST LIGHTING DESIGN OF A PLAY Hugh Vanstone, Mary Stuart
BEST LIGHTING DESIGN OF A MUSICAL Kevin Adams, Next to Normal
BEST SOUND DESIGN OF A PLAY Paul Arditti, Mary Stuart
BEST SOUND DESIGN OF A MUSICAL Peter Hylenski, Rock of Ages
BEST DIRECTION OF A PLAY Matthew Warchus, The Norman Conquests (though if they really like God of Carnage, who knows)
BEST DIRECTION OF A MUSICAL Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot, The Musical
BEST CHOREOGRAPHY Peter Darling, Billy Elliot, The Musical
BEST ORCHESTRATIONS Martin Koch, Billy Elliot, The Musical
I'll be disappointed to see Martha Plimpton lose again to the Billy Elliot broad. Plimp has been nominated the last 3 years and very likely came in 2nd and will do so again all 3 years. She should have won for Coast of Utopia.
A major, not closed musical production that only got 4 nominations in what was possibly the worst year for musicals since 2003 definitely has been basically ignored. Sorry.
...definitely has been basically...that's good stuff, total contridiction, but good stuff!

2009 will be the first year since 2004 in which Catherine Zuber will not be winning a Tony. She has won either Costume Design of a Play or Musical every year since 2005. (Though she costumed Joe Turner, Impressionism, and A Man for All Seasons this season, she received no nomination for any of them.)
Jane Greenwood, on the other hand, received her 17th nomination for Best Costume Design for Waiting for Godot. She has yet to win.
