His play "Young Man from Atlanta" won the Pulitzer in 1995.
His play "Dividing the Estate", which played Broadway this winter, is eligible for Best Play this season. He never won a Tony. He might for this. It was a very well-received production starring his daughter Hallie Foote and Elizabeth Ashley. We'll have to see how the rest of the season pans out.
He made an enormous contribution to American theater and will be missed.
