Jude Law will headline a production of Hamlet on Broadway, according to The New York Times. The production originated in London, where it was performed at the Donmar Warehouse. The Shakespeare play will run for 12 weeks at the Broadhurst Theater in New York City.

Interesting. I've really liked Jude Law's comedic work especially... I'll be interested to see how he tackles Shakespeare. Anyone seen the reviews for this show past London run?

Mixed reviews for Jude Law as Hamlet

http://www.people.com/people/a...xid=rss-topheadlines

New York Times review is not very good for Law.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

I would not mind seeing Jude Law as Hamlet. I don't suppose he does it with a ****ney accent? As the critics said, at least it is easy on the eyes.

With these mixed reviews plus the Tony voters amnesia when it comes to voting for performance that happened before Christmas, I doubt Jude Law will receive a Tony nomination.

But, I think "Hamlet" may be nominated for Best Revival of a Play due to the lack of competition. What are some of the other revivals of plays coming out this year? Last season there were tons, but it seems like there are very few this year.

I saw the production and I'm hoping he's nominated. Law is fantastic. I hope the revival is nominated as a whole as well. Love the modernization of the work - makes it sexy and exciting.

Last year was the best year in the history of Broadway for play revivals - both in terms of number of productions and quality. It's very unlikely to be that way again for quite some time.

Royal Family looks the best for now. Aside from Hamlet and Oleanna (neither exciting people) there's the Neil Simon Plays (Brighton and Broadway) - jury still out on that one - and in January 2010 Present Laughter starring Victor Garber and Harriet Harris - but that's being produced by Roundabout, which doesn't often hit a bullseye.

Likely there will be others, but this season seems to be about new plays - a new McDonagh, a new Mamet, two Margulies, Sarah Ruhl (one of my favorite contemporary playwrights) makes her Bway debut, the Off-Bway hit Next Fall transfers, the West End hit Enron comes to NY, in addition to Tracy Letts now opened Superior Donuts, which is delightful. And there may be more.
