First let me say, I think there's a chance this show could close before Rashad has a chance to fill Estelle Parsons shoes, and even if it runs through May, I don't think it will run much longer than that.

I can't say this casting gets me particularly excited...for many reasons. I think colorblind casting is a good thing, but...maybe not for this particular play, in which the family unit is pretty traditionally mid-western. I also think a lot of the racial tension of the play is pretty specifically white vs. Native American.

Can Rashad do this role? I love to be surprised, but she certainly isn't the first actress I'd think of for this. We'll see, I guess.

Well, it is out of the box casting. It'll be interesting to see Rashad in the role.
